During sclerotherapy sessions, the doctor injects the unsightly vein with a tiny needle containing a solution that fuses the walls of the vein together, preventing it from filling with blood and closing off the vein permanently. Depending on the area being treated, one to three treatments are recommended for optimal results.

Alternatively, laser vein therapy bombards the offending area with pulses of specialized light designed to coagulate the blood within the vein, redirecting blood flow to other, more discreet veins deeper beneath the skin's surface.
