Rosalie M.

is this actually to expire within a 30 day period???? R~

Lina L.

Hi Rosalie!
Yes you have 30 days to walk into any of the NYSC locations to start your membership and get your 3 personal training sessions!

Because summer WILL be here!
Lina

fausto P.

NYSC offers a free two week trail membership on their website. this is only good if u want the three personal training sessions otherwise, fail.

Susan O.

If you already used a 2 week free membership and did not join, can you still use the 2 weeks on the groupon?

Lina L.

Fausto – This is not the case – they invite you to use a 2 week membership at the cost of $20.

Susan – As long as you are not a member you are good!

Enjoy,
Lina

If this didn’t expire in a month, I’d be all for it…I have an injured knee with orders to stay away from the gym.

Trudi L.

if this expires in a month isn’t good for me….too bad

Valerie Z.

Please confirm that if I purchase the $29 coupon today the 24 Feb and activate it on 14 March at the 48th St location in Manhattan? My 2 week period would began on the 14 March and end 2 weeks later.

Melissa Y.

Hi Groupon,

Is this for first time members only?

I used to belong to NYSC and cancelled my membership a few months back. Can I use this Groupon?

Thanks!

Karen A.

Are you saying if I am already a member of NYSC I am not eligible to take advantage of this deal? And if I am eligible can I buy more than just one?

Valerie, understand you have up to 3/31/10 to activate the coupon. If you don’t activate it
by then, it expires. If you activate it say on 3/31, you have the two weeks.

Gail R.

SO, if I’m not a member I can get this great deal for the personal training, but if I have been a long standing member, supporting this club for years, no such offer? Not nice NYSC!

michelle G.

how long is each training session?

Lina L.

Valerie – You are correct!

Melissa – YES! If you are not a member currently you CAN use this Groupon – regardless of past relationships! :)

Karen – Non members only – current members are not eligible and it is 1 Groupon per person, multiples as gifts!

Michelle – First Session–45 min: Second Session–30 min: Third Session–30 min

Learn more about the Try Pack here! http://www.mysportsclubs.com/programs_and_services/personaltraining/trypack.htm

Please note that the $79 rebate is ONLY if you are purchasing more personal training sessions after your 3 and sign up for membership.

Can I do the personal training at one location, and then go to other locations for classes?

Jaclyn S.

The groupon says exiring on 3/25 but someone above said expiring on 3/31; which is the actual expiration date?

Molly C.

this groupon does not exclude classes correct?

Christina R.

I was wondering the same thing. Is it full use of the club? Pools, classes, etc for the 2 weeks?

Lina L.

Hi all!

You must start your 2 week pass by 3/25/10 AND you have FULL use of the facilities and classes for 2 weeks.

You ARE a member for 2 weeks, so anything they can do, you can do!

Jen d.

Hi Lina,

If I was a previous member (cancelled membership last year) but already did the try-pack, would I be eligibile to purchase this groupon and get try-pack again?

Lina says: “Please note that the $79 rebate is ONLY if you are purchasing more personal training sessions after your 3 and sign up for membership.”
Does this mean I have to purchase a full membership & more personal training sessons in order to get this groupon deal? I read the “fine print” & I’m confused.

Andrew U.

Lina – there’s no requirement to sign up for a full membership at the end of the two week period, correct? So in theory I pay $29 now, have two weeks of membership and the three sessions and can walk away after two weeks if it’s not what I want?

Jessica C.

I have the same question Jen de Jong asked above.

Adrienne C.

NYSC Two-Week Trial Memberships are not free, the two weeks will cost you $19.99

Vin T.

This is a joke….go into any NYSC, sit down with one of their sales reps and they will give you the same deal, if not better. You can get free first month and the personal trainer sessions if you commit to a full year membership.

mara g.

do you have to use it at one location only? thanks.

I have the same question as Brynn Neal & Andrew U. Do we have to purchase a membership in order to receive the $70 rebate?

Natasha W.

So when I purchase this groupon by the expiration date could I use it anytime after I purchase it or is this expiration date In affect to also use and finish with it by the expiration date? In other words do I have to use this groupon by 3/25?

Shazia K.

Is it possible for me try the clubs 2 week trail for $20 and then NOT become a member and then use my already brought groupon for the following 2 weeks? This way I will have 4 straight weeks at the club!

Andrea N.

I just want to verify that I will not have a commitment to become a member or pay any other fees after the 2 week trial/personal training period for the groupon. Please confirm. Thanks!

Anne S.

I am not a Groupon rep, but I am fairly sure:

*1) You buy this Groupon today, Feb. 24 (but cannot officially use it until tomorrow, Feb. 25)
*2) You have a month — until March 25, to start your two-week trial people.
*3) This means, you can go to NYSC on, say, March 1 and begin your two-week trial, which would end on March 15,
*OR
*4)You could go to NYCS on March 25 and begin your two-week trial, which would end on April 8.

I don’t think this “$70 rebate” thing has anything to do with the Groupon. You’re only spending $29 — how are they gonna give you $70?

Jimmy F.

Uh, wha? This is the worst non-deal I’ve seen so far. There is no 2-week membership if it has to be followed by a full-priced monthly/yearly membership. It’s a long-term commitment disguised as something cheap. The 3 free training sessions aren’t free if you HAVE to buy more. How is that even close to free? I’m handing out $20 bills to everyone I see on the street (but you have to give me $100 immediately following that).

LOLWHA?! Gimme a break.

Lina L.

Jen – YES – you’re in!

Andrew, Sean, Andrea, Jimmy -
This is not the case – you do NOT have to sign up for anything after redeeming your Groupon! This was never stated and not the case.

NO ONE receives a $70 rebate – I only mentioned it because it stated that you could receive a $79 rebate IF you were to sign up for more personal training sessions that would REQUIRE you to extend your membership.

ANNETHANK YOU!!! This Groupon can be activated as late as 3/25/10 and you then have 2 weeks after that to complete!

Enjoy,

Hello Everyone,
My name is Sean and I’m with New York Sports Clubs or NYSC as we like to call ourselves… Keep the questions coming and I’ll do everything I can to answer them.

AND A BIG THANK YOU to Lina and others who’ve already cleared up inquiries.

Andrea N.

One more question…please confirm that i will be able to schedule all 3 personal training classes within the 2 week membership period…Thanks

Can you use the classes offered on various locations or just in one location?

Christine R.

Can I use it at any club in the city? Like sign up at the 41st st one, workout there, but then get PT sessions up on 92nd st? Thanks

Sean W.

Michael – Great question, in fact I had to check with our Club Support team. Your trainer will be assigned to you after you meet with the club’s Fitness Service Manager, FSM. The FSM will assign a trainer based on your needs and fitness goals. This might be a Master Trainer, Pro Trainer or Apprentice Trainer.

Thanks,

Sean, as someone stated earlier, not cool to completely set aside your long time, loyal EXISTING customers with this deal. Very disappointing.

Hope this answers your question.

i previously had a membership trial with NYSC but decided not to join due to $$, am i still able to use this groupon?

Can I jump around to different NYSCs during the two weeks or do I have to go to the same one?

Sean W.

Hey Jennifer and other NYSC members,

This offer is only valid for non-members. During each month we run multiple promotions where we offer discounts towards PT, Small Group Training, Sports Club for Kids, ect… For example, we are currently offering members 50% off 4 and 8 packs of 2FIT. 2FIT is personal training with one trainer for 2 people, but this offer does expire at the end of Feb.

Any other questions, let me know.

Hello Emily,

I’m not exactly sure how you would cancel your order and receive a refund; I’ll let Lina answer…

As for the club, it would be best if your mother’s name is on the certificate so there is no uncertainty.

Hi,
I have a question too. What if I want to redeem my coupon at one of NYSC locations where 150 people happened to do that too? How will I be able to receive my 3 personal sessions unless you have an army of personal trainers?
If you do, then I am in:)

Scott Z.

If I bought this groupon today, can I walk into a branch and use it this afternoon or do I have to wait for some specified period?

Cynthia C.

Hi,
Would I be able to take the classes that are offered? Like yoga or spinning?

Sean W.

K – Great point. We have 109 locations and we’re well prepared, in fact hoping for a great response to this offer. Don’t forget, individuals who are purchasing this offer won’t schedule their PT sessions all on the same day. In fact, everyone has over a month to schedule PT sessions and train.

Feel more comfortable? Other questions, let me know.

Denise O.

Sean and Lina,

I just used a coupon for a free week at NYSC on LI, just notice Sean state that trial memberships are limited to one trial membership per person per year. The free week was basically a free pass into the gym without a staff member informing me of programs or services. I didn’t get the full NYSC experience and was hoping that I would be able to use groupon to decide if NYSC is the gym for me.

Sean W.

Scott – Yes, we are ready and waiting for you.

Cynthia – Yes, during your 2-week trial you can take any Group Exercise class including yoga and spinning. The only excluding classes are Small Group Training classes that are always an additional cost.

Sean W.

Denise – Yes, you will be able to take advantage of this offer. You only had a limited one-week trial and our 2-week trial membership is limited to one trial membership per person per year.

Why doesnt NYSC ever mail/email discounts about lowering your monthly rate to active members…members who have been paying their monthly fees for years. It seems like you roll out new discounts for new members very frequently (first six months at x% discount) but never extend these discounts to existing members. At around $80 per month for an avg membership, I’ve been paying you guys thousands of dollars over the last few years but have never, not once, received any kind of “thanks for being loyal, heres a discount”.

How about a groupon for existing members? Or would that scare management too much?

Kelly K.

Sean/Lina,
I am NOT a member. I am interested in getting the 2-wk workout with the PTraining.
That said, once it is done, am I forced to get any type of membership? Yes/No
Thanks!

Sean and Lina,

Thanks so much for helping answer questions about this deal. i would love to try out NYSC, but will I be required to become a full member after the 2 week ($29) deal is over?

hi, i’m not clear about the expiration for use of the gym. if i activate the membership before 3/25, can i use the gym during the first 2 weeks of april? it just says that it needs to be activated by 3/25, not used by then. please let me know. thank you

Sean W.

Also, we do run Member Application Events once every three or four months. Our last one on January 19th was “Commit 2010: Member Celebration Event” which included a full schedule of activities including demonstrations, contests, prizes and giveaways. As for monthly dues, I’ll pass along your suggestion.

This Groupon deal is great! I am going to Miami in a month and was waiting for an excercise groupon deal I could use right before going and this was exactly what I was hoping for! Have been dying to try out NYSC also =). Bought one for my mom too. Thanks!

Anne S.

Sean and Lina seem to be giving conflicting information regarding whether Groupons are “transferable” or not — i.e, can you buy two with your name on them, and give one to someone else to use.

Sean is saying they are *not transferable,* but that you can use the “gift” option when buying to designate the Groupon for someone else.

Lina is saying that they *are transferable* — you don’t have to use the gift option — you can give a Groupon to someone else even if it has your name on it, because the groupon will have a different ID number.

Again, I am not a Groupon rep, but I’ve used Groupons before and given them to people (with my name on them) with no problem. I’d trust Lina on this one — Sean may not be familiar with the Groupon ID numbers.

If I’m wrong, please forgive me. Just trying to help clarify things, because I hate when things are not clarified for me. :)

Jean T.

Can I purchase one for myself and one for my 17 year old daughter?

Lina L.

Anne – You’re right, although I dont think Sean meant that the Groupon wasnt transferable as a gift, only that you could use the GRoupon for something else that NYSC offered.

Thanks!

Jessica m.

OK, I bought it and I’m looking forward to using it. If I understand this correctly, I have two weeks of unrestricted club use once I activate. My question has to do with the specificity of personal training. I am currently dealing with a collection of injuries (two long term [arm and shoulder] and one recent [broken toe, what a pain!]) and am wondering if the trainers are experienced in dealing with this and if it’s possible to find out who at a specific location is best qualified to work with someone in long term recovery.

Many thanks,

jessica m.

Sean W.

Lina and Anne – To be honest, I was not quite clear on Groupons being “transferable”, but I now understand there is a Groupon ID number which our club uses to identify the individual offers. So if you want to buy one for yourself and then one for every family member, go for it!

However, once someone activates the 2-week trial, the membership is no longer transferable. Person who activates it can only use it.

Tarek – Sorry I missed your question. Your trainer will be assigned to you after you meet with the club’s Fitness Service Manager. This trainer needs to assess your fitness needs and goals, but MOST IMPORTANTLY assess what you can physically handle. This is for safety and should be performed by all personal trainers for any health club.

Hope you understand,
Sean
NYSC

Sean W.

Jessica – All our personal trainers have a national personal training certification and multiple specialty certifications. As for your trainer, he/she will be assigned to you after you meet with the club’s Fitness Service Manager, FSM. If you like, let me know what club locations you are available to work out at and I’ll find you a PT specialized in recovery.

Sounds good?

I bought this, called NYSC today to schedule my PT sessions BEFORE I walk in (as I will be using this during VISITS to NYC because I don’t live there) so that I can have my two weeks all planned out. I called Mike and 86th and Lex, left a message, and he never called me back. Hey Sean, can you get on his case? I want to schedule my session times before I walk in so that I’m not going into NYSC and there are no trainers available the day/time I walk in and want to be assessed and trained. I also want to be able to have the same trainer every time and I want to confirm this on the phone by having appointments already set up, but if I call and am ignored, I cannot do this.

Thanks,
Tamara

Charlotte L.

Hi again,

Willing to buy one groupon if any body has an extra. Thanks.
charlotteiliu@gmail.com

tabitha f.

I’m with Tamara on this…I have a two hour commute from my house to NYC everyday so I wanted to get my training scheduled ASAP. I walked in with my Groupon and had no problem with the girl at the front desk – she even let me borrow her lock since I forgot mine the first day. She told me that I would be getting an email from the fitness manager Mr. Ramos (41st Street) that day to schedule my training sessions. NOTHING!!! I then called and left a message. NOTHING!!! When I was at the gym again I spoke with Ms. Ruiz. She introduced me to a trainer and we scheduled an appointment for today. I informed both of them I wasn’t sure that I was going to join the gym since I have to get up so early but the trial deal was a good way to test the earlier commute. Well the trainer who was supposed to confirm with me over the weekend did not. He texted me at 8:30 this morning for our 9am appt to ask to reschedule to tomorrow. I got on a train at 6:45. At this point I’m not going to have enough time left in my trial to get the three training sessions in. This deal, my first Groupon, has not given me much confidence in the service/product offered.

Andrew F.

Thanks, Sean and Lina, for answering all the questions, you’re doing great. Here’s mine: I used my Groupon at NYSC Irving Place, so far mostly so good. The membership advisor met with me and told me I’d hear in 24 hours from a personal trainer, but that took three days. I did finally meet with the personal trainer, and he was great, but didn’t seem familiar with the three-session deal of Groupon. He couldn’t schedule me for my second session for another four days, and after that I have one day left in my two weeks (when my Groupon expires).

If I can’t get my three training sessions in during the two weeks due to NYSC not being able to schedule me, will NYSC honor my purchase and give me my final session? Thanks.

Valerie J.

Hi, I just want to make sure that I am clear. I have to ACTIVATE my membership prior to the expiration date; HOWEVER, i have two weeks AFTER the activation even if that two weeks is AFTER the expiration date on the groupon. correct?

Stephanie H.

can we use multiple clubs or just one??

Dinhhuong D.

Hello,
I have activated my 2 week membership on 3/18/10 smoothly. It has now been 6 days and still no contact from a trainer to set up my FIRST training session. I have talked with 2 membership consultants and 1 trainer manager and none of them can get my trainer (Vanessa at 151 East 86th Street, New York Location) to contact me. Tomorrow (3/25/10) it will be a full wasted WEEK of my membership. So what happens when I don’t get in ANY (or not all 3) of my training sessions? I highly doubt I will see my $29 again. :( I wonder if this is how NYSC treats all clients…

Dinhhuong D.

Valerie Jeannis- This is correct as long as you activate by 3/25/10.

Stephanie H.- You have to train where you registered but you can work out anywhere you’d like

Andrew F.- Did anyone give you a reply for “If I can’t get my three training sessions in during the two weeks due to NYSC not being able to schedule me, will NYSC honor my purchase and give me my final session?” because I’d sure as heck like to know myself.

Melanie G.

fyi, i’ve been waiting for a week to hear from a personal trainer, even though when i redeemed my groupon i was told that i would hear from one within 24 hours. I don’t usually work out with a trainer, so i didn’t think that much of it, but it’s still a bit annoying. Bit late at this point to try and schedule with one, too. Meh.

Molly C.

I made an appointment with the personal trainer. He chose the date and time, Saturday 4pm. I got there early and waited at the front desk area where I was told to wait. At 4:30, after asking the girl at the front desk a few times about my trainer (and being assured he was indeed in the gym somewhere already) I decided just to go workout myself. It was a totally inconvenient time for me but I went anyways, just to get blown off. It seems like a lot of people are having issues with this groupon. Not impressed.

NYSC club log
3/22 (mon) ~9:15pm 1st session. fitness manager out until friday. 14 days to go.
3/24 (wed) ~9:15pm 2nd session. no fitness manager.
3/26 (fri) called 5:23pm left voicemail with finess office. no response. 12 days to go.
3/29 (mon) ~5:30pm 3rd session. met fitness manager. filled out form. promised a trainer would call me by the end of the night. when asked what to do if no one called, insisted several times that someone would call. no call, no message. 6 days to go.

to make it clear, each “session” mentioned is a “going to the gym” session, not a personal training session.

Vinny W.

Awful, awful, awful. Went in for the first time on a Thursday and was told the fitness manager would contact me the next day. After lots of calling, I finally made an appointment for the following Wednesday, one week later. My trainer was 20 minutes late, and then he left me to run on a treadmill for 30 minutes while he went to teach a class! So the fitness manager took over. The night before my 3rd session, he called and said he was going out of town and assigned me another trainer, but never confirmed a time. I called every 30 minutes for 2 hours the next morning and no one could tell me what time my session was supposed to begin. Finally, I found out my session was starting in a little over an hour, but I have a two-hour commute into the city, so that wasn’t happening. I asked if I could come in on Friday, when the fitness manager was supposed to return, to complete my training, but she said no because my trial ends on Wednesday. So I never got my third session. What a terrible experience.

Molly C.

UPDATE:
Went in yesterday after being blown off by my first trainer. Met with the fitness manager who apologized and said she would set me up with another trainer, he was meeting with someone at the time so she had me leave all my contact information and my training availability so he could call me. STILL NO CALL. This place is ridiculous. Such a waste of money.

tabitha f.

i’m wondering why no one from NYSC or Groupon is posting to this anymore? hello? there are still customers with problems!

Dinhhuong D.

UPDATE: If you pester everyone in your NYSC enough you can get your 2 week guest pass renewed (that consists of talking to trainers, managers of the club, fitness service managers, trainer manager, and etc). That is if they are feeling generous. Finally after having no luck with VANESSA at 151 East 86th Street, New York Location (SHAME ON YOU!) I was switched to Neely. She’s nice as a person. But she didn’t really teach me anything that I could bring home to do on my own as I can’t afford their gym membership. I asked over and over for a 30 minute home work out regimen. Got nothing out of it in the long run. What I learned? No more services related groupons for me. Only food related ones are up to par in my opinion. I got another one as a gift for my sister in the hopes of encouraging us to be healthier. She hated her first 2 sessions so much she didn’t even want to go to her 3rd session. NYSC = FAIL! :(

Oh did I mention they are already soliciting my sister at work on her cell phone even before her trial ends? There’s a 0% chance of her or I joining this gym. The trainer just tried to force my sister to buy more personal training sessions and got really irritated when my sister said she did not plan on continuing. Wow Worst gym ever!

Signed up at East 91st and 3rd on a wednesday. Got my guest member card and was told I would get a call the next day. No call for 2 days, so I went by Friday after work and was told the director would not be in until Saturday. I went in Saturday and was told I would get a call on Monday to set me up with a trainer. I got a call one days earlier on Sunday from the trainer and he needed to call me back to work a day in his schedule to set me up. We picked a time and date for the first sessions, got a call back to reschedule for a later time that day. Hoping the sessions are worth all this back and forth stuff.

Update—I finally got a call from a personal trainer, on the LAST DAY of my two-week membership, as I was working out at the gym for the last time. I could probably get a two-week extension on my membership so that I can finally work with the trainer, but it’s looking like far more trouble than it’s worth. Really badly done, NYSC.

Haven’t had nearly the issues getting in touch with the trainer that others have, so I won’t complain about that. I have to say, though, it was highly irritating when my cell rang while I was at work and it was a girl trying to convince me to buy a full membership. There’s nothing wrong with customer outreach, but geez, wait a couple of hours. It’s not like the gym closes at 5.
