A certified personal trainer leads outdoor, co-ed boot-camp experiences, which begin with an evaluation to peg clients’ fitness level. During the evaluation, clients’ overall and core strength will be assessed, as well as their endurance and flexibility. Then, a series of varied, always rotating exercises will stimulate muscles and promote cardio rigor, including stretching, running and walking, resistance training, and plyometrics. To keep things fun, there are obstacle courses, fitness games, and dictionary readings.

As clients move through the boot camp, they can track their progress through measurements of their weight and body-fat index. Exercisers should remember to bring running shoes, a mat, 5- or 10-pound dumbbells, a jump rope for non-beginner classes, water, and layered attire. Sessions are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Starting September 20, the Friday 6 p.m. class will move to Thursday at 6 p.m.

Instead, a slate of boot-camp workouts that keep clients guessing manage to be both challenging and fun, like playing a sport or tickling the president. In the name of variety and constant fitness progress, boot camps present workouts such as free-weight exercises, calisthenics, ab and core training, jump-rope drills, and speed and strength training.

At the helm of this program is certified personal trainer Karen Johnson. She makes the obliteration of the sibling fitness scourges—boredom and stagnation—her first priority. Karen also partners Try7Fitness with Max Muscle, a local sports nutrition business that offers assessments, nutritional counseling, and supplements.
