The Fine Print

100% of donations go directly to Tubman House. Donations are automatically applied. Must provide full name at checkout. See Grassroots FAQs that apply to this campaign. Merchant is solely responsible to purchasers for the care and quality of the advertised goods and services.

The Issue: Prevalence of Teen Pregnancy

Every year in the United States, nearly 500,000 teenage girls—40% of whom are younger than 18 years old—become parents, according to data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. The same data indicates that nearly 60% of teenage mothers live below the poverty line and that their children are more likely to live in poverty, face incarceration, and become teen parents themselves. Finishing high school or college can help young parents attain stable careers to support their families and break the cycle of poverty.

The Campaign: Tutoring Young Parents

If 50 people donate $10 to this Grassroots campaign, then Tubman House can provide tutoring for 8 young parents experiencing homelessness to help them complete high school or college. The funds cover the cost of school supplies, books, and tutoring staff. Tutors assist participants in boosting their writing and researching skills, and in creating study plans to tackle daily challenges without becoming overwhelmed. Each additional $62 raised—in conjunction with the matching donation—will provide tutoring for two additional young parents.
