$29 for a 90-Minute Introductory Fencing Class ($75 Value)

Instructors school students aged 5 and older in the basic skills for one of the three traditional fencing blades—the foil, épée, or saber. Once armed, they walk students through the footwork, blade work, and ancient terminology behind their chosen discipline. See the schedule for available class times.

Utah Swords Academy

Sergei Gritsaev taught his first student to swing a saber more than 30 years ago in his native Ukraine. Throughout the course of those three decades, also Sergei progressed and went on to train the country’s national team for the world championships. Now, assisted by two other coaches, he hones Salt Lake City’s finest competitive and recreational swords folk at Utah Swords Academy. There, he teaches his students the art of manipulating fencing’s three classic blades: foil, épée, and saber. No matter the chosen blade, Sergei begins each course of study by focusing on footwork and vocabulary. After students learn to walk the walk and talk the talk, lessons progress to more complex blade techniques, including feints, defenses, and long-legged lunges.

The Groupon Guide to: Using a Map

In this modern age of technology reliance, most people have completely forgotten how to use a good old-fashioned paper map. Here’s a quick refresher:

Find a place that sells maps. Maps are probably sold at like a map store? Look it up on your phone.

Buy a map at the place that sells the maps. Make sure you buy a good map. Use your phone to see who makes the best maps.

Unfold the map. This is the worst part. Put your phone in your pocket or your mouth for a minute while you use both hands to open up the stupid map.

Look at the map. This is the other worst part. You can only look at the map. It doesn’t do anything when you touch it or ask it to play the songs. It just sits there.

Go to the place on the map. Once you get there, use your phone to reflect sunlight onto the map so it burns. It burns away. It goes away. It doesn’t come back. The fire makes it nothing. Take a picture of the nothingness with your phone.

What is the most flammable kind of map? Find out in today's Groupon Guide.
