The scavenger hunt starts at Hermann Square and takes place Saturday, November 23 at 10 a.m. through Sunday, November 24 at 5 p.m. Each team member gets access to the Via Colori Street Scene, complimentary drinks, a swag bag with goodies and coupons, and access to the Lucky's Pub tent, where they'll find music and games. Teams use a clue card to explore downtown Houston and solve puzzles in hopes of winning a prize.

Along the way, they explore the Via Colori Street Scene, which brings together 250 artists. These creative minds use chalk to create street and sidewalk murals depicting people, animals, buildings, and anything else that springs from their imaginations. The two-day event also hosts live concerts on three stages. All proceeds from the event benefit the The Center for Hearing and Speech, an organization dedicated to teaching deaf children to speak and read.

Via Colori Street Scene + Scavenger Hunt

Each year, more than 200 talented artists flock to downtown Houston, their minds filled with creative ideas and their arms full of pastel chalk. The reason for this artistic gathering? The Via Colori Street Scene + Scavenger Hunt. During the event, local and guest artists sketch and smudge chalk into street art that explore themes such as sports, medicine, and energy. Some people work collaboratively, others work individually. Whatever their modus operandi, the artists transform Houston into a free, walkable art gallery that delights its visitors for two days. The vivid creations are fleeting however; they disappear with just a bit of water, much like a street mime. But that only serves to make the event more special.

To complement the chalk murals, the Via Colori Street Scene also hosts musical performances, a scavenger hunt, and a Family Zone entitled Via Bambini. Here, visitors can get their faces painted or design and create their own chalk art. All of the festivities and their combined revenue make for the largest annual fundraiser for the The Center for Hearing and Speech. For more than 60 years, this noble charity has helped deaf children learn to speak, read, and communicate.
