Before a leisurely one-hour trot alongside the ocean, savvy horse minders give a few simple riding tips for novices and pros alike. As the guided tour parades along the beach, riders are encouraged to lead their horses into the shallow water for a cool splash. This helps keep the rides safe and enjoyable. Shoreline tours run from September through June, during which an instructor guides horses through the sand at Virginia Beach. In the summer, horse and rider can roam the trails at Northwest River Park. Weaving through a four-mile nature path, patrons may run across local wildlife such as deer, fox, and bobcats in their natural habitats. The park also invites travelers to the shaded trails and woods at the edge of the intercoastal waterways, along with canoe and paddleboat rentals and mini golf.

4. Telepathy Test: No dog has ever passed this test, but judges are holding out hope.

5. Pick Your Favorite: None of this matters. The judges just pick their favorite dog.
