Grounding their teaches in the kenpo tradition, karate instructors help both children and adults build confidence, improve fitness, and cultivate humility through studying unarmed self-defense. Class schedule varies by location—buyers should contact the location that they plan to attend for its schedule.

During birthday parties, a black-belt instructor leads kids through a karate lesson, which includes training with foam nunchucks. The birthday child also gets his own uniform, the chance to break a wooden board, and help cutting the birthday cake with a real samurai sword. Packages also include invitations, plates, cups, utensils, decorations, setup, and cleanup.

Warhorse Martial Arts

The black-belt instructors of Warhorse Martial Arts believe that developing character on the inside matters as much as learning to defend oneself on the outside. That’s why throughout their classes, they emphasize principles such as modesty, integrity, and perseverance to help pupils overcome the conflicts that can’t be resolved through traditional coup d’ètat. For the times when those skills are needed, they prepare students by training them in kenpo karate. Through progressive classes for kids as young as 5 through adults, instructors drill participants in both unarmed and armed self-defense. For those interested in developing defense skills for the ground, they teach Brazilian jujitsu. This focused approach, along with its sponsorship of charitable organizations such as the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation, has won Warhorse Best Martial Arts in KREM’s 2010 and 2011 The Best of Spokane awards.
