Questions and Answers

I have been looking for an opportunity to pick up some books for summer reading. Now is my chance! Whoohoo!

Hey Aaron G., just to let you know, I’m having a HUGE Garage Sale with thousands of books for $1 and .50 this Thursday-Saturday at 1130 W. Elderberry Ct in Andover:)

Out of curiosity, is there a way to use this Groupon for both books and food at Watermark? I know there are two separate checkout areas, and wondered if, on the same day, one could somehow mix and match say a book with a coffee. Thanks!
Hi Olivia. Just take your book selection to the cafe when you order your food. The cafe staff can check you out for both so you can use one Groupon for both. (The bookstore staff can ring out food, too.) Thanks for buying our Groupon! – Beth @ Watermark

Thanks for letting us know Beth…I have been telling everyone and their brother about this on Facebook:)

That is excellent! Thank you so much for your prompt response, Beth…I love promoting local businesses, and having discounts at some of my favorite places makes that easy! Looking forward to stopping in soon!

Oh, and just for those of you who might have an interest in the history of Watermark, in talking with a friend yesterday who remembered when it used to be downtown near the Orpheum, I found this article from the Sunday paper that you guys might enjoy: http://www.kansas.com/2010/06/06/1346637/local-bookseller-gets-recognition.html The owner of the bookstore, Sarah Bagby, just got named to the board of the ABA (American Booksellers Association)!
Was looking forward to purchasing a particular book at Watermark using my Groupon. Checked store hours before I left the house today. Arrived at the store at 4:20 this afternoon knowing that they’re open until 5:00 p.m. on Sundays, only to find that there was an “event” going on in the middle of the store, and an employee told me I could not go to the far corner of the store to get the book I wanted (even though there was a clear path around that would not disturb the reading event). I asked when the event would be over and she said 5:00 (closing time). She checked the computer and found that they had the book I wanted in stock. She went to the area where the book was supposed to be and was only gone a minute or two, returning to say she couldn’t find it (even though it was supposed to be in stock), then asked if I wanted to order it. Since I’m leaving to go out of town Tuesday and wanted the book to read on the plane, I told her “No, I’ll get it somewhere else.” Bottom line, this was an effort on my part to support local business, but they dropped the ball. First of all, when you have a paying customer enter your store ready to spend money, they should be the priority, not a “reading” for a small group of people. Second of all, when it is clear that you’re supposed to have a specific item in stock and someone is standing there ready to buy it, spending a minute or two to find the item and giving up is not acceptable. Needless to say, I won’t be buying my books there. I’ll use my Groupon in the cafe and be done with them. Sorry, Watermark, you lost my business. No amount of Groupons can correct the lack of customer service.

I love Groupon haha! Watermark is my favorite independent bookstore in town, and perhaps the Midwest…great books, great sandwiches (try the Godfather), great coffee (I love the Ulysses). Thanks for posting a Groupon Sarah:)
