  • $89 for a VIP Fraser Valley wine tour for one (a $196 value)
  • $169 for a VIP Fraser Valley wine tour for two (a $392 value)

The day-long tour of three Fraser Valley vineyards begins before noon at rendezvous points in Vancouver, Coquitlam, Pitt Meadows, and north Langley. Once picked up from these locations, you and at least 20 other guests venture out with a wine expert, who discusses the history and terroir of Neck of the Woods Winery, Township 7 Vineyards and Winery, and Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery with a VIP tasting and tour at each stop. The specialist will serve a picnic lunch of a turkey or vegetarian sandwich, fruit, and a sweet at tables overlooking the valley, and also guide the selection of wines at each of the vineyards. Groupon customers should schedule tours online.

West Coast Wine Education

What's proper etiquette for the Queen's sommelier? West Coast Wine Education's John Gerum confronted this question head on when he served Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Apparently he made the right choice, as he went on to pour wine for Prime Ministers, Presidents, Provincial Premiers, and cultural icons during his 20-year career. Gerum's achievement distills three generations of fine dining experience that was passed down from his father, a chef, and his grandfather, a maitre 'd. Wine education was always his passion, so when starting out, he sought personal instruction from the master sommelier Andrew Laliberté and demonstrated a palate refined enough to earn him membership and certification from the International Sommelier Guild. Today, Gerum merges his know-how with that of wine educator Paul Watkin—who boasts a nearly 20-year career and a bounty of experience at acclaimed restaurants—to cultivate a roster of classes and hone their delivery. These experts join in delineating Scotch terroir and describing the bouquet of a student's favourite pinot-stained shirt with an easy professionalism that has enthralled groups of up to 300 people. They share their expertise with casual drinkers and professionals during two-hour workshops, in consultation for store openings and events, and through appearances on Global TV.

The Groupon Guide to: Appearing Smart in Public

If your dream is to get discovered on the street by a casting agent for the popular television trivia show Baby or Sack of Potatoes?, you’ve got to appear smart. Increase your odds of getting on that show with these tips:

  • Read a book, but show off by reading it upside-down.
  • Go for that classic scholarly appearance—thick, plastic-frame glasses and a bald head covered in pulsing veins, which feed your brain a steady, plentiful stream of blood.
  • Challenge passersby to a debate about a current hot-button issue, like whether or not prisons should have special cells for horses that do bad things.
  • Never ask questions. If you get lost, keep walking in one direction. You’ll eventually hit water, at which point you’ll want to fashion a raft out of fallen branches and set sail. There’s a chance it’ll take you exactly where you wanted to go in the first place.
  • Surround yourself with other smart people. Once you’ve assembled a team of intellectuals, lure them to a secluded area and tie them all to something heavy. Now you are the smartest person left.

Is prison good for bad horses?
