Each two-hour adventure begins with training time led by two certified zipline guides who help guests don helmets, harnesses, and pinky guards. The 4,000-foot canopy tour explores the grounds of Wilstem Ranch across a series of tree-mounted platforms that are connected by nine ziplines. A braking system, controlled by both the guest and the guide, ensures a safe landing at each perch.

Stretching across more than a thousand acres at the foot of southern Indiana's Hoosier National Forest, Wilstem Ranch's rolling farmland is home to creeks, caves, natural-rock outcroppings, chiangus cattle, and more than 30 miles of woodland trails. A creek populated by small-mouth bass attracts local fishermen dressed in bear suits; wildflowers, native plants, and trees color the area in natural vegetation. Additionally, a variety of cabins—equipped with kitchens, hot tubs, and fireplaces—provide accommodations for up to 21 people year-round.

  • Start by picking out your shovel. The proper shovel size is as long as your arm span and large enough to incapacitate a raccoon.

  • Use the proper form when shoveling so that you don't hurt your back. Proper form is to squat all the way down on the ground, lay the shovel full of snow across your knees, and then stand up very suddenly, jerking the shovel above your head and holding it with both hands.

  • Remove the snow from your front walkway first. It might be snowing outside, but you still never know when an attractive salesperson or giant-check delivery man might stop by.

  • Continue by shoveling all of the snow from the front yard and putting it in the street. Look at all of the grass you freed.
