Open to participants 18 and older, the Wintergreen Resort Adventure Challenge tests mental and physical strength with 7 miles of rocky obstacles. Race days progress in heats, with the first group of 200 competitors hitting the course at 8 a.m. each morning. After the race, muddy finishers reunite to enjoy live music and refuel with eats and drinks (not included in the value of this Groupon).

Wintergreen Resort Adventure Challenge

At first glance, the Wintergreen Resort Adventure Challenge seems like a suitable place to take a scenic jaunt. Then, you reach the obstacles. Tucked within the Blue Ridge Mountains, the rocky, 7-mile course challenges thrill-seekers with extreme elevation changes and 20 unique obstacles such as mud crawls, tightropes, and log walls. Each hurdle aims to slow racers down while also helping them to build endurance, strength, and the confidence necessary to trick fellow racers into taking phony shortcuts.

Following the grueling dash, adventurers can stick around for the after-party, which runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., to enjoy live music and food and beverages for purchase. The Wintergreen Resort Adventure Challenge supports Wintergreen Adaptive Sports (WAS), an organization that partners with the Virginia Special Olympics and Wounded Warriors to create outdoor-recreation experiences for people with disabilities.
