Traditionally, Mediterranean cuisine is served on a plate, which rests on a table with legs. Experience this regional fare the way it was originally meant to be served. For $15, you get $35 worth of Mediterranean dinner cuisine at Aesop's Tables, the Mediterranean café on Massachusetts Avenue.
The Great Sea of Mediterranea has spawned fantastic dance moves, as well as cuisine that delights the most stoic of palates. Aesop's Tables celebrates traditional dishes from Spain, Portugal, Greece, and Morocco, with a dinner menu of succulent fare. Any food tour can begin with Aesop's dipping plate featuring Tuscan bean dip, hummus, and sun-dried tomato and feta spreads with pita pallets ($8.25), or a dozen garlic-and-wine steamed mussels ($9). At the sound of the dinner gong, professional illusionists unveil the grilled Portuguese chicken and shrimp over rice with a caramelized onion sauce ($18.50), and a rich lamb stew served over a roasted potato with cinnamon, Allspice, herbs, and green beans ($17.50).
Vegetarians can turn to the delights of the pita grill, with grilled squash, green peppers, and onions served with mozzarella and tzatziki ($9) and the Greek salad with a blend of lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, feta, olives, and house-made Greek dressing ($8.75). For all appetites and in all weathers, Mediterranean cuisine is regarded as an essential gustatory experience.

Reviews
Indianapolis Restaurant Scene says this of one of Aesop's Tables' dishes:
- Probably the best thing was the lobster bisque—it was very brightly colored though and very thick, thicker than any lobster bisque I have had, but it had a good flavor. And you could really taste the lobster. Hubby thought it was the best thing we had, and declared he would go back for it. – Indianapolis Restaurant Scene
Though the reviews are at times polarized, Yelpers give Aesop's Tables three stars, and TripAdvisors give it 3.5 owl eyes, praising the superb sustenance:
- I had the gyro, which was huge and delicious. Instead of the side it came with, I substituted a Greek salad for $1.75 and it was a good salad. We got our food very quickly and the server was very friendly and attentive. – LHWIndiana, TripAdvisor
- OH...try the cannoli too! Very slight orange hint in the cream filling and it's very refreshing and a perfect ending to a great meal! – laura0227, TripAdvisor

Aesop's Spoilers
For safety, you'll want to know the morals to all of Aesop's fables before you dive into the Mediterranean cuisine served up on Aesop's Tables. Fortunately, we can save you some time with our compilation of Aesop's Fables spoilers:
The Tortoise and the Hare: So confident is the hare in his lead over the tortoise, that he stops to take a nap, waking up hundreds of years later to find that the world he knew is gone and his family and friends are all dead.
Moral: Narcoleptic lagomorphs should refrain from gambling.
The Boy Who Cried Wolf: Having lost his credibility with the townsfolk, the boy calls up his friend the wolf to confirm that his existence is now considered a mere legend, and he may freely hunt their children by night.
Moral: You mess with the shepherd, you get the wolf, son! AH-WOOOOO!
Cradle of Darkness: Time-travelling nanny Andrea Collins goes back in time to kill baby Hitler, but unable to bring herself to do so, exchanges the baby with a local villager, thus accidentally creating the very Adolph Hitler history would come to know and revile.
Moral: History can never be changed. Not even in… the twilight zone.
