A grocery store is like a carnival midway—it offers shelves and shelves of goodies that only become available after lobbing baseballs at stacks of bottles. Today's Groupon brings the fresh food without the carnie cons: for $7, you get $15 worth of groceries at Heartland Pantry, the Lincoln branch of Hy-Vee markets. This Groupon is not valid for lottery tickets, tobacco, alcoholic beverages, or gift cards.

Heartland Pantry, which is smaller and more specialized than typical Hy-Vee combination stores, takes pride in its selection of private-label goodies. Spend an afternoon perusing aisles of Blue Ribbon Meats, fresh produce, canned goods, frozen foods, candy, dried delishins, flowers, and more. Organic and gluten-free options make for convenient one-stop grocery shopping and eliminate the need for organic additives and gluten sifters.

Since its humble start as a small, neighborhood convenience store in 1930, the Hy-Vee company has stayed true to its mission to provide top-notch service and high-quality goods at limbo-low prices. Because all Hy-Vee stores operate independently and sell only their own brand of products, each location can control its inventory and prices to keep community members happy. In fact, Hy-Vee's commitment to the community's contentment colors outside of the aisle lines, making substantial marks on mankind through charitable giving. Swing by Heartland Pantry to support the supportive company, and you might also find a brick of cheese to support the short leg of a wobbly table.

Reviews

The Lincoln Journal Star featured the opening of Heartland Pantry, saying:

Groupon Says

Freshness Fanaticism

If you're an even-tempered sort not prone to flights of zealotry, you might still become somewhat determined to find the freshest produce at the frugalest prices. However, if your search for freshness impedes on your daily life, you may suffer from actual freshness fanaticism. Consult Heartland Pantry if you begin to exhibit any of these telltale symptoms:

  • You refuse to wait until tree produces apples to begin eating one.
  • You will only buy milk from the far back of cooler time-stamped "EXP 2018."
  • You passive-aggressively encourage blind dates to become "fresh" with you, leading to mixed messages, long silences in parked cars, and more Mylar apology balloons than you can realistically show off to coworkers.
  • You refuse to check out Shanghai Knights until it comes out on Blu-ray.
  • Unable to determine which came first and is therefore fresher, the chicken or the egg, you simply opt to try and eat the sleeves of your straitjacket.
