Now that spinach has been deemed a performance-enhancing vegetable, Popeye's future shortstop career hinges on his transition to jambalaya. Get a sailor's worth of energizing Southern cuisine with today's deal: for $20, you get $40 worth of upscale Southern cooking at Vieux Carre in Hillcrest. This Groupon is not valid for Sunday brunch or the purchase of alcohol.
Executive chef and general manager David Bennett, who received his formal training at the Le Cordon Bleu–affiliated Scottsdale Culinary Institute, wants patrons of Vieux Carre to experience the sounds and tastes of New Orleans's French Quarter without having to fire up the motorized tuba sitting in the garage. The imaginative menu is brimming with seasonal creations and old favorites. The delectable crab cakes sit atop crispy polenta and are served with remoulade and Creole sauces ($12), and a thick concoction of shrimp, crab, scallops, crawfish, and andouille sausage takes up residence on rice in the classic bayou stew, Jambalaya a la Jacey ($18). Stop in for lunch at Vieux Carre and experience the rosemary pork sandwich, made with succulent grilled pork loin and rosemary aioli on a warm hoagie roll ($9). The chef's daily pick of tantalizing desserts ($6) will have your sweet tooth crooning even sweeter songs of praise.
Vieux Carre's brightly lit dining room, with its wide windows and warm color scheme, has been remodeled to resemble the original 1915 design of the historic building, which once housed the Pulaski Heights Town Hall. This family-owned restaurant often features live music from its neighbor, the Afterthought Lounge. Take a break from penning your rock opera about the life cycle of the magnolia and feast on the fare of Vieux Carre.

- The leeks were divine; the potatoes and carrots were fantastic as well. I highly recommend the crab cakes. They are phenomenal. Best in Little Rock, in my opinion. – Gastroferrum, Urbanspoon
Groupon Says
I Will Bayou a New Life
The food at Vieux Carre will bring you a taste of New Orleans. But besides the city's proud history of festive cat funerals, the hangover Olympics, and sentient alligators in sunglasses, what don’t we know about this mysterious town that some have dubbed "the Cleveland of the South”?
- Dixieland jazz is nothing more than a failed attempt at ska music.
- Baron Samedi, the party-hearty voodoo spirit of death and resurrection, has only two weaknesses—holy water and Nicholas Sparks novels.
- Mardi Gras has been observed annually since 2002 to celebrate the release of Snow Dogs starring Cuba Gooding Jr.
- New Orleans sports teams all have a severe trophy allergy, a condition that was not diagnosed until recently.
- New Orleans is French for "Old Faithful."
