Tired of feeling unfit and unhappy with their bodies, husband-and-wife team Barry and Jana Ratzlaff decided to make a change. They registered for a fitness and weight-loss challenge, and have since revamped their physiques and lifestyles. Today, 50 and 25 pounds lighter, respectively, Barry and Jana have made it their mission to help others change their lives while having fun.
To that end, their mostly outdoor fitness facility spans 10 acres of cedar forest. But the natural expanse is more than idyllic hiking grounds. Twenty challenges obstruct winding, wooded trails, through which Barry and Jana lead small groups in flipping heavy logs, balancing on cedar beams, scaling rope walls, and outrunning beavers. When the weather isn’t ideal, they bring their fitness expertise indoors to their fully stocked studio for one-on-one personal-training programs, which can include weight-training, cardio counseling, and nutrition planning.
The Club Health and Wellness couples group workouts with spa services to build both healthy bodies and a communal environment for women. Owner Daphne Guenther maintains a clean, sunny studio with intense circuit-training regimens. Participants may take Zumba, circuit bootcamp, Tabata, hula core, or core blast classes. After their workouts, members can retire to an infrared sauna to send toxins fleeing from pores, or enjoy other services such as massage therapy and soothing, detoxifying ionic footbaths for tired feet. All staff members?from instructors to childcare-centre personnel?are women, providing a comfortable haven for ladies to break a sweat.
Over the past 30+ years, the courts at Great West Fitness and Tennis Club have seen countless matches, serves, volleys, and upsets. The center focuses on all aspects of tennis during classes for all ages and skill levels, including junior tennis camps held during the summer months for kids as young as 3. Beyond balls and rackets, group fitness classes such as Zumba, yoga, and intense cardio and strength-based boot camps get members moving.
