Parking and admission is free at Castle Fun Park, allowing guests to customize their experience by only paying for the attractions and games they choose. Every day from 10 a.m. until midnight, kids and adults of all ages explore scenic, outdoor activities including mini golf with a view of the mountains. The go-cart tracks, bumper-car arena, and remote-controlled boat pond sate needs for speed, and the shooting gallery and softball and baseball cages let athletes flex their skills. More than 160 games buzz in the arcade, including air hockey and pinball, which strengthens hand-eye coordination and improves players' ability to follow the bouncing ball during sing-along TV jingles.
Now the only remaining farm on Vancouver’s North Shore, Maplewood Farm—nestled along the banks of the Seymour River—was founded in the early 1900s by Mr. Akiyo Kogo and operated as a successful dairy farm before its designation as a rural heritage site in 1975. Dedicated to introducing visitors of all ages to the inner workings of a busy farm, such as the best time of day to hug a lamb, a team of farmhands circulates about the pastoral 5-acre plot entertaining visitors with educational presentations that include cow-milking demonstrations and the feeding of pigs and horses. Nascent ranchers can commune with nature as they arrange birdseed feasts on the ground for the farm’s chickens and ducks or power a pedal tractor around the grounds. An adorable assortment of livestock hangs around throughout the day, patiently fielding questions on why Old McDonald is allowed to break the ‘I before E’ rule with his cries of "E-I-E-I-O."
When Craig Schindle worked the front door of the Harrison Springs Resort & Spa, visitors would often ask him for suggestions of family-friendly activities to do on the lake. Inspired, Craig bought two motorized Sea-Doo watercrafts, and Harrison Watersports Inc. was born.
Today, Schindle's fleet has expanded to nine Sea-Doos, two high-end ski boats, and a variety of recreational bumper boats and banana tubes. These watercrafts glide across the pristine waters of Harrison Lake, known for its vistas of sandy shores, snow-capped mountains, and colonies of runaway middle-school history teachers. On an inflatable waterpark that floats atop another part of the lake, visitors can scamper across obstacle courses, careen down slides, and cannonball into cool waters.
At Giggle Ridge Adventure Golf, visitors wend their way through a course set in a fictional abandoned lumber mill called Giggle Ridge Logging Company. Wooden barrels pepper the terrain, along with logging equipment and tree trunks that one can imagine were felled during overly raucous squirrel house parties.
The course—in collaboration with Cultus Lake Water Park—sponsors the Love Global Foundation Mini Golf Tournament, a contest whose proceeds benefit missionaries in Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
Each reaching up to 70 feet, Coastal Climbing Centre's more than 100 routes create a staggering sight as interweaving patterns of colourful foot and hand holds stretch from the gym's padded floors all the way up to its ceiling. Visitors needn't feel overwhelmed, however, as the gym's staff can help them climb step by step. During drop-in sessions, instructors handle all belaying, letting climbers focus on solving each problem. Alternatively, instructors teach students to belay for themselves and master more nuanced climbing techniques, including back steps and the backstroke.
Away from the lead routes, approximately 80–100 bouldering problems challenge climbers in different ways. Devoid of harnesses and ropes, climbers must rely exclusively on a chalk bag and a firm grip. The gym's hang boards, rings, and H.I.T. Strips help build the required dexterity, and complimentary hot beverages can fuel visitors' steam-powered legs.
Though it started as a small berry stand in 1977, Maan Farms Market & Country Kitchen has spent the last three decades expanding, accommodating, and providing its community with a welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of urban living. One constant during that time, however, has been the family's dedication to producing fresh edibles, from juicy berries picked during the summer, to the crisp vegetables and sweet corn that spread across tables in the fall. In addition to the year-round farm market, guests can indulge in meals from a resident chef. While visiting the farm, guests can utilize those wholesome treats as fuel to explore the property's collection of activities, including the Critter Corral, where pigs, bunnies, and ducks elicit wonder by munching scoops of food or re-enacting chapters from Charlotte's Web. Bee hives, a bird sanctuary, a panoramic view of the valley, and a trio of mazes—including Papa Joe's corn maze starting August 1—round out the lineup of agricultural attractions, which group tours, birthday parties, and campers can take advantage of at various times throughout the year.
