  • Adrenaline Run
Most 5Ks and mud runs cater to adults. Adrenaline Run is not most 5Ks and mud runs. The just-for-teens event pits participants against natural and human-made obstacles, challenging them with rocky terrain, waterways, and homework. Some heats are timed, but youths uninterested in stats or clocks in general can join in untimed runs. After the challenging scramble concludes, racers head to the after-party for food, live music, and costume contests awarding the Most Creative and Most School Spirited ensembles. Both participants and spectators can take a gentler jaunt through a bounce-house course, or sit back and listen to performances while sharing mud-splattered stories.

  • Firebreather Challenge
In tales of old, knights would travel miles, climb mountains, and conquer the elements to take down a villager-menacing dragon. Though there's no BTU-spewing beast at the end, the Firebreather Challenge offers plenty of climbing and conquering. A series of obstacles stands in each participant's way, challenging them to leap over hurdles, crawl through the brush, or carry sandbags up a steep hill. Racers even fight against nature during night races, donning headlamps to light their way. Event staff time two of the challenges before determining the final rankings for individuals and teams. In the end, runners meet up with an after party and possibly cool glasses of beer.

  • Cave Spring Road Race
This June, the 33rd annual Cave Spring Road Race once again sends runners, joggers, and walkers scampering across the campus of the Georgia School for the Deaf. The area's dense forestry envelops participants in lush greens as they trot their way around the certified course, either as part of the 5K race or the one-mile fun run. But the day doesn't end at the finish line or when the winner gets caught with bottle rockets in his shoes. Participants and their families can stick around to eat a continental breakfast and browse the arts and crafts festival in Rolater Park. Or they can explore the town's famous cave, or check out one of the largest swimming pools in Georgia, a 1.5-acre lake shaped like the state.
