The students at West Cobb Martial Arts know that a fight isn't won with a series of memorized punches and kicks. That's because they learn how to apply each goju-ryu karate technique to a real-life situation. While their instructor imparts wisdom gained from more than a decade of experience, they build strength and coordination. Trim waistlines lead to bolstered confidence, and longer attention spans make it possible to read all the way to the end of recipes, avoiding any future birthday-cake tragedies.
Aqua-Tots Swim School trains and encourages swimmers in the art of buoyancy through its array of services, specializing in instructing those aged 6 months–12 years in small groups. Children are placed in one of eight class levels, from Tadpoles (6 months–18 months), which acquaints infants with the pool, to Stingrays, which is for children who have more experience and want to refine their strokes and one day sting a jellyfish. Each individual class contains no more than four students training under the watchful eye of the instructor in a climate-controlled indoor pool. In addition to the children’s program, Aqua-Tots Swim Schools also leads adult swim classes and provides training for both swim competition and first aid.
Spurred by a desire to connect with other adventurers sharing his passion for exploring wilderness territory, Reginald Mitchell began leading hiking trips throughout Georgia and the Southeast. Though he regularly helms mountain-climbing excursions on local slopes such as Kennesaw Mountain and Amicalola Falls, he's also traversed mountains in areas as disparate as Tennessee, California, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Middle Earth. Sandwiches and trail mix fuel hikers on most tours as they enjoy hiking's numerous health benefits, such as weight loss, endurance building, and stress relief.
The bright and airy training facility of Daehan Martial Arts–blanketed in walls of blue, orange, green, and yellow–is the stomping grounds for martial arts and fitness classes. Experienced instructors help students high kick and chop their way through Taekwondo sessions. In other rooms, students bend and twist their way into soft pretzels or yoga poses aimed at building strength and flexibility. The instructors also run after-school programs and summer camps that pair martial arts training with arts and craft projects for children.
