Image-making expert Suzanne is a wife and mother, so she understands the fast pace and busy schedules most families keep. With her photography, she strives to capture the special moments that might otherwise be missed in the rush of daily life, keeping portrait sessions fun and natural, like organic carrots on roller skates. Use today's Groupon to capture the curiosity of a toddler before she's all of a sudden an accountant, or preserve the confidence of a high school senior before he begins a brand new social climb in college.
Though Lauren Cooksey started out with just a Salvation Army camera in hand and three children in tow, the photographer and single mother was determined to fulfill her dream of achieving a successful career in her chosen art. Her talent and sheer willpower paid off; today, Lauren continues to snap shots under the moniker Cooksey Photo and has even enlisted one of those aforementioned toddlers, Tracy, to join her mission.
With 20 years of industry experience behind them, the mother-daughter photography team captures candid images of individuals and families, crafting prints with warm, sepia tones brushed with custom color. During photo shoots, the duo uses handmade sets and props to coax out the personality of each baby, graduating high schooler, or beloved mannequin. Afterward, they select the best image to edit before dressing it up with daubs of digital color. Finished prints from a family session spruce up a lonely end table, or a print from a pet photo shoot can enliven a mantel in a doghouse. The new in-home studio, which opened in June 2011 is also child-friendly.
During shoots at Portrait Simple—a studio specialized in child, infant, maternity, and family portraits—skilled photographers snap an unlimited number of poses in front of a choice of backgrounds and provide the convenience of instant printing. Sessions can take any size group, accommodating families and close-knit juries. Models don simple duds without heavy patterns or logos and can tote props such as sports equipment or special blankies. After striking jubilant, winsome, or wrathful poses, guests sit down with the photographer to select images to turn into prints.
Cheyney Barrieau Photography's namesake brings years of experience behind and in front of the camera to create artistic images of people, places, and things. Subjects can choose to be snapped at Cheyney’s studio or at a location of their choice, such as an enchanting park or a linen closet ($35 travel fee to locations beyond 20 miles of studio). Voluntary paparazzi treatment is laid upon babies, high-school seniors, engaged couples, headshot hunters, and Pacific Northwestern man-apes. Cheyney will shoot up to 100 exposures to capture the perfect image for a lifetime of self-admiration and dispenses a CD of all the shoot's usable images, an 8"x10" to stuff into film producers’ hands, and a $10 print credit (prints up to 8"x10" are $10 each; larger sizes are available for an additional fee). For an additional fee, the studio heaps on the glitz and glamour with a hair and makeup professional and a group of amateur Ben Franklin lookalikes at subjects' disposal.
