Nightlife in Firestone Park

One of Akron’s oldest Irish pubs, Kevin O’Bryan’s menu showcases authentic Irish dishes in addition to inventive spins on American classics. Signature starters such as Vinnie’s pizza dip, a baked concoction of cheese, tomato sauce, and pepperoni designed to be excavated with grilled ciabatta bread ($6.99), vie for gastronomic supremacy with hearty sandwiches that include the Classic Prime burger ($7.99) and the Chicken O’Bryan—grilled chicken and ham canoodling on a toasted ciabatta roll ($7.99). Traditional tastes of Ireland include the fish 'n' chips ($8.99) and the grilled chicken boxty, which is swaddled in potato pancakes like the orphan left on Mrs. Butterworth's doorstep ($7.99). Although this Groupon can't be redeemed for alcohol, the pub's happy hour stretches 2 p.m.–7 p.m. every day, with bartenders pouring discounted draft beers ($2), mixed drinks ($3), and wines ($3).

From Meatloaf Monday to each Friday Night Fish Fry, weeks at the Firestone Park Hideaway are filled with hearty American food. Recently reopened under new management, the bar features simple items such as breaded mushrooms, chicken wings in six types of sauce, and beef burgers, as well as a list of draft and bottled beers to help wash down every bite. At a stage in one corner of the retro, wood-paneled watering hole, DJs spin late into the night and live bands play on Saturdays.

Beer and pub food are the name of the game at The Grille on Waterloo. Guests can nosh on a variety of appetizers such as bacon cheddar fries or fried mushrooms, or jump right into the pulled pork sandwich, Cajun burger with mozzarella, or wings with 13 different sauces and 2 dry rubs. They can then complement meals with 1 of the 34 draft beers, which includes Dortmunder Gold or Shock Top raspberry wheat, or bottled beers such as Heineken and Red Stripe.

Part of the Firestone Country Club, Hackers' cozy, family-friendly establishment is open to its links-loving members and the non-golfing public alike. The inviting glow of ten plasma screen televisions beckon guests to the bar, where Hackers serves a whistle-whetting list of domestic beers and wines by the glass ($4–8), as well as liquor and mixed drinks. Pub classics such as fish and chips ($12), pizza ($12–15), and customizable burgers ($8), vie for menu dominance against vitamin-laden salmon salads ($10) and Asian-inspired sweet and sour shrimp ($14). Golfers can continue to bully tiny spheres off the course and sink their teeth into an order of Akron sauerkraut balls ($6). The restaurant's atmosphere is comfy and cozy, with a toasty fireplace, golf-themed décor, and a wall of windows that look out onto the 9-hole course, allowing smug sandwich-eaters to marvel at how many strokes it takes some people to escape from the sandtrap.
