Wills Creek Vineyards and Jules J. Berta Vineyards are both nestled amid pristine Alabama hillsides. The sandy soils and high elevation of the local mountains foster a exemplary environment for growing delicate, flavorful grapes that the vineyards turn into luscious wines. Let the wine experts at Wills Creek find the perfect pairing for your upcoming menus during complimentary tastings, or enjoy a glass of wine and a cheese board on the winery's deck. Jules J. Berta offers a number of varietals for sampling, including merlot, riesling, and Born Dixie sweet muscadine wine. In addition to the tastings, Wills Creek hosts special events and offers regular winemaking classes, and you can find Jules J. Berta's wines in a variety of local stores.
Heritage Golf continues the tradition of the Scots with a par 71 scenic course nestled between stately mountains in Blount County. Invite a friend or friend-sized golf club on an 18-hole excursion aboard a friendly golf cart to tackle the course's flat terrain and 113-slope rating. Open fairways offer views of the North Alabama countryside while multiple natural creeks interact with play and occasionally produce mermen willing to caddie in return for a single lock of human hair. Golfers of any skill level can find a challenge putting on bentgrass greens and driving over Bermuda fairways before retiring to the full-service grill, where hot and cold comestibles are available for purchase. Denim is asked to remain on the ranch, but collared shirts are welcome, provided pants accompany them.
The animal lovers behind Tigers for Tomorrow at Untamed Mountain founded the preserve and environmental education center to both rescue predatory animals that had been discarded when they were no longer wanted, as well as to educate the public about these creatures. As a last-stop preserve, the nonprofit exotic animal park keeps all the animals it takes in for the rest of the animals' lives. The education center also focuses on teaching the public about its more than 175 animals, particularly its apex predators?big cats, bears, and wolves.
Visitors here can learn about the animals' habitats and behaviors on their own during a self-guided walkabout. These take about an hour and lead tennis-shoe-clad visitors through the slightly wild trails at Untamed Mountain. Guests can also opt for a guided tour, and all guests will have a chance to interact with the animals at the children's animal contact yard. This features everything from goats and pigs to birds of prey and reptiles.
Once inside the carnivore preserve, guests can safely get close to (but not touch) the tigers, lions, bears, leopards, wolves, and other predators. Because it is a working preserve, visitors can view the keepers feeding and interacting with the animals.
