Since opening its doors in 1998, Language Stars has introduced more than 30,000 children to foreign languages with small-group classes and full-immersion activities. Through a selective process, Language Stars recruits ambitious teachers from more than 20 countries who share a common goal of revolutionizing how and when American children learn foreign languages. Parents and Tots Classes are available for children between 1–3 years old, and Kids Only classes are available for children 3–5, 5–8 and 8–10 years old. Hospitality Training Institute readies aspiring bartenders, casino dealers, and banquet servers to excel in both charming customers and plying their trade. Instructors guide their students through complete certification courses, which can last 20 to 150 hours, or through single-day workshops, in which students hone their skills to optimum employability. The institute maintains connections with the Virginia Hotel and Lodging Association and the National Restaurant Association, a close association that helps pupils find paid work upon completion of their training. Safety certifications demonstrate how to handle food and alcohol properly, so that confused waiters don’t fire all meals from a cannon.
You'll be led in the ways of matching and loving under director Ron "Ald" McDonald, aka Tennis the Menace, aka the Count of Volley Cristo—a US Professional Tennis Association–certified coach and 35-year veteran of successful tennis-knowledge transmission. The Child and Family Network Centers provides free education and social services for preschool children, and job training for their families. The children it serves are considered at-risk due to limited English proficiency and low-income backgrounds. To fulfill the need for strong educational programs, CFNC operates a year-round preschool in 10 classrooms—with literacy and language support for bilingual children in 27 languages—to prepare them for kindergarten with their peers. These programs reach out to families in their own neighborhoods and supplement the students’ education with additional resources such as health services.
