No strangers to the stage themselves, the board of directors at The Velvet Note built the intimate venue as a musician?s dream of exquisite natural acoustics. On its carefully crafted soundstage sits a 1924 Baldwin Model M baby grand piano, which serves an endless lineup of locally and nationally renowned acts. In between applause and using their index fingers as maestro batons, visitors can occupy their hands with food from The Velvet Note?s menu, featuring lobster cobb salad, black mussels in garlic butter, and all manner of classic southern desserts. Run by musicians for musicians, the club creates an up-close-and-personal environment where performers and fans can actually mingle.

As the inaugural concert for the Roswell Presents: True Americana series, The Travelin' McCourys' fast-paced plucking skills tickle eardrums with traditional bluegrass sounds and innovative tone tinkering. Music mavens can cease pondering what whale songs would sound like with a proper complement of backup singers, turning to the authentic sounds of a quartet comprised of mandolin strummer Ronnie McCoury, banjoist Rob McCoury, fiddle player Jason Carter, and upright-bass spinner Alan Bartram. Twenty years on the road have led to celebrated live collaborations with the Allman Brothers, Phish, and Warren Haynes, as well as many acts in and out of the bluegrass community. The group plucks their way through acoustic and sometimes electric performances, treating listeners to inventive experiments that may result in discoveries of new instruments more exciting than the keytar or acoustic stapler. Special guests The Packway Handle Band strum energetic, alternative bluegrass as well.

The Georgia Ensemble Theatre (GET) touches audiences and helps cultivate a strong artistic community through classic and contemporary shows. Under the direction of former Roswell native Don Farrell, GET's professional troupe of ribald line readers will perform a greatest-hits version of Forbidden Broadway, a Tony Honors–award recipient in 2006. For nearly three decades, audiences have sought treatment for excessively slapped knees and busted guts prompted by this constantly changing production's send up of the popular tunes and plot lines of Broadway shows past and present. Harmonizing humorists draw theater-goers to the edge of their orchestra seats with a medley of songs that roast The Lion King, Annie, Wicked, and other hits from the Great White Way.
