Labriola Bakery Café's owner and namesake, Rich Labriola, began baking artisanal breads at his Oak Brook store in 2008. The son of a pizza maker, Rich knows exactly what makes a perfect bun or baguette: the crackle of the crust, the large crumbs, the earthy flavors trapped inside. Everything that comes out of his oven—from the wood-fired pizzas to the flaky almond croissants—is a work of art that began back when Rich learned the secrets of bread making from masters of French, Italian, and German traditions. Chicago magazine has hailed his bakery as a destination for gelato made fresh daily in seasonal flavors, which include fruity summer selections and a cold variety that celebrates winter.

Since starting his business in 1988, Dr. Dennis Gaeta has honed the vision of more than 18,000 active patients. He makes each pair of eyeglasses himself to ensure the accuracy of the prescription, which can be presented in digitally processed lenses, no-line bifocals, and Transitions lenses that adjust to the amount of light both outdoors and inside the car. These lenses get fitted into fashionable frames from brands such as Bellagio, Mandalay, and Modern Optics.

Menus at Allgauer's may vary slightly by location, but each Hilton-anchored outpost of American dining serves high-end steaks and seafood. Mid-day appetites can be quelled with lunch offerings such as a starter of baked artichoke bruschetta ($8) and a hearty grilled rib-eye steak sandwich ($13). To dine during dinner, arrive in sundown-style and begin with an appetizing opener such as the mushroom pot pie with sherry wine and walnut blue cheese ($7). Sample the meatiest of meals, the grilled beef tenderloin medallions ($22–$33), or take a bathypelagic trip to fullness with sautéed shrimp and sea scallops ($17–$27). Entrees are served with a choice of the soup du jour or a house salad.
