Since 1946, John Christ Winery has been a destination for locals and tourists alike, who stroll across the verdant property and sip samples of the many wines made onsite. John Christ Winery continues to welcome visitors to the rustic tasting room decorated with Americana memorabilia and plenty of windows to let in natural light. Taking a seat at a table or sidling up to the bar, visitors can sip samples of the red, white, and perpetually embarrassed blush varietals.

Hannah and Gord Mitchell purchased their 52-acre farm more than 40 years ago, dreaming of slowly transforming the property into a winery. But their careers took them away from their homestead for a while, so it wasn't until 1991 that they first successfully established vines on their land. Yet when they did, the soil and plants got on well and the Mitchells soon found themselves with 35 acres of noble grape varieties, including chardonnay, pinot noir, and cabernet sauvignon. Both their fruit and budget ripened, and in 2003 they finally began to build their own wine-making facilities. At the top of the list? A barrel-aging cellar and a 6,700-square-foot event patio. Today, the winery holds regular property tours and tastings for visitors who want to try Sprucewood's wines. Situated along the shores of Lake Erie, the grounds also make a stunning venue for weddings and more casual picnics on the shore, many of which are regularly hosted by the Mitchells themselves.

For more than 75 years, the Lacomini family has graced the local culinary landscape with a rich menu of traditional Italian recipes and an extensive selection of ambrosial wines and martinis. Defy conventional pasta physics with an appetizing antipasto such as crab-stuffed mushrooms ($6.95) or zucchini fretto sprinkled with parmesan cheese ($6.95) before pondering the complex tuscan béchamel strata of a baked rustic lasagna ($14.95). Delectable dishes such as the cashew-crusted trout ($22.95) or sautéed veal scaloppini ($21.95) complement a tabletop like a kiss seals a memo or a rose kisses Seal.

Nestled among 100 acres of lush vineyards that have blossomed for more than 25 years, Mastronardi Estate Winery cultivates 18 different kinds of grapes that resident winemaker Lyse Leblanc transforms into a prize-winning slate of wine varietals. Lakes Erie and St. Clair sandwich the region, naturally maintaining a suitable vine-harvesting climate that yields the building blocks of sweet dessert wines, crisp whites, bold merlot-cabernet amalgams, and sparkling varietals. Visitors tap into a rainbow of elegant elixirs during tours, tastings, and seminars, decamping to the winery's European-inspired tasting boutique, where a knowledgeable staffer points out oft-overlooked subtleties, such as the pinot grigio’s hints of honeydew and longing. Mastronardi Estate Winery donates a portion of proceeds from the floral-inspired Brianjë riesling to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association in memory of the daughter of owners Eadie and Tony Mastronardi.
