Though a sports bar at heart—the walls are lined with flat-screen TVs tuned to football and basketball games—Sammy’s Bar & Grill’s dark wood tables and a natural stone accent wall give the dining room an upscale feel. There’s even a heated outdoor patio with a stone fountain and a sculpture of a lion drinking beer with his pinkie out. In addition to traditional burgers, sliders, and wings, diners can also feast on Southwestern and Italian specialties including sizzling fajitas and flatbread pizzas. Behind the bar, mixologists serve up a full selection of spirits, California wines, and bottled beers, plus a dozen brews on tap including local finds.

At Starlight Cinemas, cinephiles can get up close and personal with their favorite celebrities without worrying about security guards or the electric force field that keeps Ralph Macchio from aging. Two movie tickets grant you and a companion access to any 2-D or 3-D movie (subject to availability), projected in pristine HD digital in every auditorium. A large tub of popcorn fuels buttery snacking during trailers, and a free refill ensures patrons have snacks to eat during the feature or to toss over their shoulder during startling horror scenes. Though not valid with this Groupon, each theater is equipped with full concessions should you feel the urge for sodas, candy, or other popular cine-fare. Check Starlight Cinemas’ individual websites for current listings and showtimes.

Chance Theater's mission to encourage meaningful dialogues and discussion through provocative theater pieces continues this season. The 2011 Mainstage Series includes an impressive repertoire of spirited plays and musicals. The season kicks off in January with the West Coast premiere of Nerve, an edgy romantic comedy about modern day dating. Next on the docket is The Boy in the Bathroom, a moving musical about a man who finds safety and comfort in a commode. Jerry Springer: The Opera, inspired by the irreverent television talk show, premiers in July, while Up, a play about an altitudinally ambitious American family, closes the curtain in October.
