G3 Great Greek Grill's three owners, who came together over their love of Greek food, opened the first of their five Houston-area eateries to bring traditional Greek dishes to casual diners. Unlike most Greek restaurants, where the eats come out of the kitchen in a set way, G3 offers patrons a choice between building their own gyros, gliders, or pita sandwiches and devouring classic Mediterranean morsels. G3's chefs also make each generously portioned dish quickly to get patrons in and out the door and on with their lives. In addition to slinging custom falafel to dining-in customers, the grill delivers vittles to houses and caters parties and Greek gods' rap battles.
Chefs inside the Daily Review Cafe's kitchen artfully mold American cuisine into elegant, contemporary renditions of traditional comfort food. The low-carb and standard dinner menus flaunt that culinary marriage in a spread that includes southern fried chicken as well as filet mignon. At brunch on Saturday and Sunday, the chefs give diners sweet and savory options for starting the day by stuffing french toast with cream cheese and nestling crab cakes beside eggs. Chefs pass off the entrées to servers who ferry them to the spacious dining room or to the porch, which overlooks a brick patio surrounded by colorful garden foliage. The patio holds 20 to 100 guests and hosts events including private parties, where Daily Review's food shines alongside expertly mixed drinks from the bar.
Plumes of heat rise above a pot as the ribs within it simmer in fragrant fish sauce. A chef ladles garlic sauce over sizzling scallops in a nearby pan. Those aromas float out to the golden-hued dining room as waiters emerge with dishes including sweet and sour chicken and vermicelli noodles laced around charcoal-grilled pork. Desserts such as sam bo luong, a flavorful mix of fruits, nuts, and seaweed, ensure evenings end as spectacularly as fireworks displays in a nuclear laboratory.
Cajun Shack imports the tastes of the Louisiana bayou with shrimp dusted with cayenne pepper and blackened catfish fried until it melts in the mouth. The menu's recipes draw from local seafood and produce. Cooks serve their specialties Monday–Friday inside the spacious eatery during lunch and dinner or by delivery.
It started with a single sound—the sizzle of eggs as they hit the bacon-greased iron skillet. And with that, an 8-year-old Chef Ambrose stepped into the culinary arts, going from a kid helping his dad with barbecue to a chef with two gold medals from Culinary Institute LeNôtre. At Just Burgers, Chef Ambrose lends his culinary expertise to hamburgers he sculpts fresh daily, grilling and sandwiching each Black Angus-beauty on a choice of a ciabatta, wheat, or the popular pretzel bun, which often sells out nightly. He also dresses each one in fresh toppings, along with occasional organic goodies gleaned from visits to the farmers' market. Running a BYOB establishment, Just Burgers' team members charge no fees for uncorking wine bottles or prying off beer caps with their teeth.
Having honed her culinary skills for more than 26 years as a caterer in Jamaica, including a few years catering for high-profile Jamaicans, executive chef Jacqui Francis weaves fresh herbs, locally grown produce, quality meats, and Jamaican seasonings into tropical entrees and tapas dishes. Today, she oversees grills sizzling dishes such as sweet reggae chicken slathered in house barbecue sauce, or Red Stripe ribs that seal a juicy marinade of Jamaica's local brew. Reggae, soca, and traditional Caribbean melodies meld with her dishes' aromas as live performers unwind on Friday and Saturday evenings.
