"I'm bored!" is probably the most common phrase uttered by children out of school for the summer. Even inundated with an abundance of toys, games, and technology, kids still want more. Instead of getting them yet another magical centaur, parents can keep their offspring occupied with one of Arizona Summer Camps's diversions. The camp teams up with a variety of local businesses to present a diverse array of summer camps to engage the minds and bodies of youths. The quality of instruction is top-notch, and the student-to-teacher ratios are kept low.
Kids can expand their horizons with science-driven experimentation in fields such as robotics or computer gaming, or break a sweat and a few boards in one of several martial-arts camps. Gymnastics camps bolster coordination and strength in wee ones.
Across three Tucson locations, Boxing Inc.'s instructors develop their classes based on the training regimens of real-life fighters, encouraging guests to bob and weave at their own pace. Students skip rope, pummel hanging bags, heave medicine balls, and push through cardio workouts to condition their muscles as they hone techniques in their choice of combat style. Muay thai kickboxing techniques demand strikes from all four limbs, and grappling classes teach takedowns from styles including judo, wrestling, and Brazilian jujitsu. For a cumulative battle strategy, MMA courses blend maneuvers from each school, inciting suspenseful spars between pupils not seen since the six-hour bare-knuckle boxing match between James Kelly and Jonathan Smith on December 3, 1855.

What is one fun, unusual fact about your business?
We are the only martial arts school to be exclusively licensed by the world renowned Roufusport Kickboxing Association. Through Duke Roufus, we are connected with multiple fighters in the UFC and our students have opportunities to train under some of the top coaches in the world.
What is the experience customers can expect, and how do you make it special?
We make adjustments for students of all experience levels, fitness levels, and physical abilities. We tailor the classes so they are just challenging enough, but not overwhelming, especially for beginners.
Scott's Training Systems gets to know each client's fitness level, goals, personality, and lifestyle before ever assigning a personal trainer. By gathering all this information first, certified trainer Scott Keppel and his team synchronize the needs and desires of each client with the talents of each trainer. The team's far-reaching specialties include helping guests prepare for youth sports, bodybuilding, and beauty pageants. And thanks to the gym's strong community bonds, Scott's often reaches out to local physicians, chiropractors, and nutritionists for further assistance—rather than consulting a kettlebell with a crystal ball stuffed inside.
UFC Gym's staff features a team of professional fighters who come from backgrounds as boxers, mix martial artists, professional Muy Thai fighters, and Bruce Banners. The proprietary style of the UFC Gym workout is a mixture of genuine fight training, engaging fitness, and stronger-than-Earth gravity. Quasi-boxers and martial artists can burn from 800 to more than 1,000 calories during these total-body routines, which combine external inspiration and jukes, jabs, and kicks. The instructors demonstrate as students practice techniques on 150-pound punching bags. The facility includes a regulation-sized boxing ring, quarter octagon, full weight room, cardio equipment, and showers for both men and women. Session sizes are kept to a minimum, ensuring personal attention and manageable battle-royale numbers.
At Battleground Sports, parents don't have to wonder what their kids are accomplishing in class––they can see for themselves. The facility features an elevated lounge and workspace, complete with TV and free WiFi, that overlooks the main gym floor. Here, fitness instructors help athletes hone their skills in agility, speed, technique, and recognizing whether the referee is actually a rival player's dad in disguise.
Though youth training forms the core of the business, Battleground also hosts adult classes in mixed martial arts. The Brazilian jujitsu program––run in affiliation with Team Megaton––is helmed by Sensei Joao Vieira. In each class, Vieira and his team of instructors drill students in submission techniques, rather than strikes, creating a competition-style practice.
