Based on the belief that all children deserve the same educational opportunities, Yes I Can! Learning Center provides quality tutoring to help students succeed in school and excel in life. It selects tutors based on knowledge and ability to work with kids, and all are college graduates or current college students. They specialize in subjects including math, science, history, reading, writing, and Spanish.
Founded in 1977, Huntington Learning Center employs a battalion of highly trained tutors who help students succeed both at school and in standardized testing. The academic evaluation, consisting of exams performed in a simulated classroom environment, yields a comprehensive collection of data that tutors use to design a custom learning program and a personalized, in-class obstacle course.
Certified Tribal Belly Dance teacher Heidi Wunder embraces every creative aspect of her art, from its empowering twirls to the traditional hip scarves that she crochets herself. She welcomes women of all ages during her classes, where she tutors tummies on the low-impact, largely improvised dance style. The form's various cues allow participants to step in unison without planned choreography or flowcharts taped to their foreheads. Because of the dance's social element, Heidi views her 2,000-square-foot space as a venue for guests to make lasting bonds while they discover their potential for strength and grace.
Heidi also handmakes many ornamentations to complement her students' routines. Custom-sewn clothing and spiraling henna patterns comprise striking tribal ensembles.
HeartStart Express turns everyday citizens into life savers with CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator), and first-aid courses. Those certification courses cover performing CPR, using an AED, and applying first aid to adults, as well as children and infants. They can also certify healthcare professionals in basic life support, enabling them to recognize life-threatening emergencies and execute proper procedures such as CPR. Classes take place online, at one's place of business, or at other designated sites throughout the region.
Understanding that each child learns differently, the staff members of Sylvan Learning Center’s numerous study centers design custom lesson programs. Based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews, the staff works with students to help them firmly grasp basic skills such as reading, writing, math, and how to remember facts without tattooing them to their chests. Programs target students in kindergarten through grade 12 and mold to various learning styles, helping kids feel more comfortable in the classroom. After-school or summer classes can ready high-school students for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or wow college admissions officers with their superior writing skills, exemplary test scores, and willingness to arm-wrestle the school mascot.
At Soulflame Pottery, artists and devoted clay enthusiasts Roy Odom and Cindi Wills impart their passions for the craft by way of pottery classes and creations of their own. Open to anyone aged 10 and older, the facility keeps its classes small and intimate. That scaled-down design allows for plenty of one-on-one instruction, and enables students to explore both hand-building and wheel-throwing methods while working on custom projects. Roy and Cindi's own pieces include carved porcelain, sculptures, and functional items, such as serving bowls and a time-out chair for unruly students.
