With more than 20 years of experience as a nurse and a fitness instructor, Amy Melnick Immel believed in that idea so strongly that she made it the guiding mission of Sound Body Sound Mind Fitness when she founded the studio.

The group classes draw inspiration from various workout regimens, allowing a combination of classes to provide a more well-rounded approach to improving a member's physical and mental health. Cardio-intensive kickboxing sessions and indoor-cycling workouts help get pulses racing while strengthening hearts. For a more strength-oriented focus, the instructors also lead outdoor boot camps and classes that use barbell lifts to work major muscle groups across the body and teach students what to do if they come across a dumbbell while on a nature hike.

Sound Body Sound Mind Fitness is also home to a number of Fitwalls: technologically advanced, wall-mounted equipment that provides vertical training that uses students' body weight as resistance. Throughout workouts, the equipment tracks each person's muscle activity in real-time and controls intensity by altering the room's gravity.

Tiffany Coolidge, the head of Blunt Force, was recently named the city's top personal trainer by 5280 Magazine. Once a campaign manager, she quit politics and took up fitness as a career and hobby. As the head of the gym, she draws on her past experience as a boxer, which started with a fight she won by TKO, and culminated in the gym's corner boxing ring. At Blunt Force, Tiffany and her staff of trainers work together to provide a modern approach to traditional workout regimens.

The 9,000-square-foot space hosts far more than boxing instruction, however. Run using the same aquatic training program that tests the mettle of real-life divers and explosives techs, Hellbender's Amphibious Bootcamp sends exercisers plunging in and out of the water as they blast through a blend of calisthenics and aquatic exercises. A diverse collection of former sailors, soldiers, and firefighters lead the classes, shouting encouragement as as students switch from pushups and pull-ups to freestyle, breaststroke, and sprint swims. Movable obstacles including sandbags, weights, and decommissioned bathyspheres also wait beneath the depths, challenging endurance as they bulk up screaming muscles. Classes welcome all fitness levels, but exercisers should be able to tread water, swim at least 25 yards without stopping, and arrive with their own goggles and swimsuit.

Too many 60-hour workweeks is what prompted Robyn Morrisette to ditch the corporate world for the fitness world. After becoming an ISSA-certified personal trainer, a CrossFit Level 1 coach, and a certified Adventure Boot Camp coach, she ultimately started Front Range Boot Camp, "a women’s boot camp with heart." There, while being spurred on by Morrisette and the other exercisers, women can push, pull, run, climb, and jump their way to health and physical fitness, tracking their progress and becoming part of a fun community along the way.

The exercise program changes daily but always starts with a warm-up and ends with yoga.
