With over 40 years of experience in boxing, fitness, and martial arts, Victor Lashley has mastered methods of training to help students reach their goals. With his fellow instructors, they lead boot camp classes, kickboxing, cross training, martial arts, and personal training sessions. As a former corrections officer, his’s career often immersed him in life-threatening situations, putting his self-defense skills to the test outside the safe confines of a gym. To empower others with the ability to fight back while getting fit, he now teaches myriad forms of martial arts at ICAT Triple Threat Training Center. He trains patrons in MMA grappling, Kali, and his own method Defensive Concepts, which blends kicking and close-range striking techniques from muay thai, Kali, and boxing into a fast-paced striking art that earned Lashley a state certification as a Defensive Tactics Instructor. With the aid of his fellow instructors, he helms boot-camp classes and one-on-one personal-training sessions that devour calories. Nala—a boxer-breed pooch—serves as the gym's mascot, security guard, and head instructor of drool-based self-defense techniques.
A putt-heavy microcosm set smack in the middle of the sprawling Twin Brooks Golf Center, the manicured mini-golf course offers 18 holes of exciting, varied terrain. The petite playing field is loaded with obstacles for all ages and skill levels, with carefully designed caverns and free-flowing waterfalls conspiring to prevent multicolored balls from settling into holed homes. Great for competitive double dates or a family activity less controversial than window-shopping for puppies, Twin Brooks' miniature golf provides oversized fun by way of a shrunken-down sport.
The indoor pool at Five Star Aquatics serves as a classroom for swimming lessons. In its 90-degree waters, certified instructors teach students to float, breathe rhythmically, and ultimately grow gills. Besides minting new swimmers, instructors lead classes for competitive and casual athletes, as well as individuals with limited mobility.
Other instructors at Five Star Aquatics teach dry-land classes such as yoga and Zumba. To further enhance vitality, massage therapists welcome clients into a private room for bodywork sessions that relieve aches and restore peace of mind.
Having spent many years in the dance and fitness industries, Vanessa Berry knew precisely what to look for in her staff members when she opened Kick Dance Studios more than 10 years ago. Today, staffers include those who have trained at distinguished organizations including the School of American Ballet, Joffrey Ballet School, and Broadway Dance Center.
But as proud as she is of her team, Berry is doubly so of her students, including her award-winning dance team. Her facility's two studios constantly bustle with the moves and grooves of highly organized dance classes, which include ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, contemporary, musical theater, and acrobatics.
