Founder Patrick Willard keeps the gym open to everyone and leads a team of nationally certified fitness experts to teach everything from Zumba to martial arts and yoga. Trainers motivate clients during small-group boot camps, swift 30-minute circuit-training classes, or one-on-one training sessions. Nutrition seminars supplement the sweating by preventing budding bodybuilders from undermining their gains by falling prey to unhealthy diets of cement sandwiches.
With a goal of sharing her love of fitness, personal trainer and fitness model Brea Sharron opened her own fitness studio, where she helps her trainees meet their wellness goals with a mix of exercise and nutritional advice. Brea’s weekly schedule of classes includes one-hour boot-camp sessions, as well as one-on-one personal training.
Brett Ray has an impressive fitness résumé: under certifications he lists boot camp instructor and personal trainer, his work experience includes his time as a competitive bodybuilder, and his achievements boast of his martial-arts skills. Needless to say, he’s fully qualified to oversee the operations and staff of Greensboro Adventure Boot Camp for Women. His instructors devise workouts that blend strength training with proper nutrition and motivational support. Meeting at various locations, Ray’s workouts sweat through exercises that range from sport yoga and strength training to fitness kickboxing, obstacle courses, Pilates, sport drills, and short-distance running.
Named the Best Personal Trainer by Yes! Weekly, Blaze Thompson of Blaze Fitness knows that exercise isn't the only key to a healthy lifestyle. He and his trainers incorporate nutritional counseling into their individual- and group-fitness programs. Small-group classes and boot camps challenge participants year-round. Clients often can be found running suicides in an indoor gymnasium, jumping over logs on an outdoor trail run, and doing pushups in the parking lot at Proehlific Park.
"Warrior": anyone that is prepared to work hard and develop oneself in an effort to battle against his or her particular challenges in life. That's the way Training for Warriors defines a trainee worthy of its fitness classes. When the training system was created, only athletes qualified as warriors. But as time wore on, it became clear that this holistic wellness program wasn't sports-specific. Its blend of speed, strength, and endurance training, along with flexibility moves and nutrition, create a regime that benefits any motivated client. Thanks to ongoing assessments and feedback, trainees of all aptitudes get closer and closer to their fitness goals.
At The Fitness Studio's 1,000-square-foot gym, experienced trainers work one-on-one with clients in 55-minute sessions to buff bodies with sustainable fitness strategies. During an initial round of body-composition testing, a bioimpedance analyzer is used to detect the client's level of body fat by measuring the body's resistance to low-level electrical currents and celery (a $20 value). Client and trainer will then use this information to craft personalized exercise and nutritional plans. Finally, they'll practice muscle-molding moves on the studio's gym equipment, where they'll share space with a maximum of one other trainer-client pair and two fitness-obsessed cockapoos. After each visit, tummy-crunchers can unwind with a long private shower or a sweaty session in the personal infrared sauna, whose low-intensity beams of photon energy can also soften butter in a pinch for on-the-go bakers.
