Housed inside a 2,000-square-foot townhouse studio, Belles Photo Design provides professional photography services and high-quality digital-image creation. Equipped with two large natural-light sets, years of expertise in fashion and entertainment photography, and a neighborhood filled with picturesque backgrounds, owner and photographer Kenzi Kay focuses on capturing creative life slices. Shots utilize dramatic lighting, new planes of sight, and the clever use of depth charges to carefully portray each subject’s inner and outer sheens. Budding models, teething babies, and pet rocks can strike a pose with up to five other people during the in-studio photo session. Weatherman permitting, photo opportunities may be taken in nearby outdoor settings as well. If you're toting a fussy baby, Belle's will be flexible with the length of the photo shoot and allow more time to complete it. Each photo shoot includes an in-studio proofing session and 15 retouched digital images.
A woman in a gown runs through a fountain. A little girl wearing Mickey Mouse ears watches an airplane as it rolls up to the gate. The footprints of newlyweds mark a red carpet. The images that photographer Jason Domingues captures aren't always expected. In fact, Domingues seeks out unpredictable angles and hones in on surprising details while snapping shots for weddings, family portraits, engagement sessions, and senior pictures. The memory preservation specialist has been featured in the New York Times for his innovative approach to photography and was named a Fear Less Photographer––1 of about 900 photographers nationwide who create artful, sometimes avant-garde wedding portraits.
Unlike many professional artists, Domingues loves to share his secrets, hosting classes for shutterbugs of all skill levels to learn how to effectively use cameras to generate awe-inspiring photos of landscapes and politicians checking their mail. His in-class lectures acquaint beginners to basic concepts, he also takes more advanced students to the city streets and provides ongoing critique and tips while watching them frame shots.
As a child, Suzanne Ashley knew that one day clothing would stop growing from trees and someone would have to do some heavy stitching. So for more than 35 years, she has donned thimbles and basked in the humming heartbeat of sewing machines, crafting her own designs and improving fit and fashion for others. After a brief stint in New Jersey selling handmade accessories and imported clothing from Mexico, Suzanne returned to Lawrence to pamper wardrobes locally. Within her own Ashley Alterations, Suzanne can expertly hem a dress, take in a jacket, or use the humongous needle on the shop’s sign to ward off equipment-embezzling haystacks.
The Lawrence Fruit Tree Project works to address the growing need for access to nutritious food by partnering with the public to grow, maintain, and utilize perennial food plants. Through community orchard projects, the organization helps local residents plant and care for fruit trees, develops proposals for appropriate public spaces to plant trees, and hosts educational workshops about fruit- and nut-tree cultivation.
A beaming, tutu-clad youngster poses by a large number 2, commemorating her new age. A couple, nearly newlywed, strolls through a sepia-tinged park holding hands. A brindled puppy with floppy ears capers across a red wooden wagon. These are just a few of the shots that the photographers at Worth A 1000 Words Studios have captured during their tenure at the memory emporium. Both in-studio and on-location shoots cover the gamut of photogenic opportunities, from senior portraits to weddings to adorable pictures of babies disguised as bunnies or even smaller babies.
