The staff at Equestrian Ridge Farm has been tending to steeds and riders on its 200-acre estate for more than 10 years. During riding lessons in a medley of styles—including dressage, single driving, and trail riding—trainers educate equestrians of all levels at the facility’s two large, indoor arenas. The barn houses between 15–20 horses at any given time, a handful of which are reserved for lessons or reenactments of chase scenes from The Lone Ranger. Equestrian Ridge also offers under-saddle training for horses by an experienced instructor who tailors each session to the steed’s temperament and riding style.
Part bowling alley, part bar, and part restaurant, Rule 3 takes pride in providing fun for the entire family. Lace up a pair of bowling loafers ($3 per pair) and take to the lanes (up to a $30 value per hour per lane on Friday nights and weekends) with up to five of your favorite comrades, where you'll be able to practice your armswing arm-in-arm. Each of Rule 3's 14 luxurious lanes is equipped with an automatic scoring system and a loyal ball return, so if you strike, it will be noted, and if you gutterball, it will also be noted, but the nonjudgmental ball will roll back into your waiting arms. Although food and drink purchases are not included in today's Groupon, take advantage of Rule 3's modern, lounge-like eatery to recharge by knocking down some burgers and cold ones after a midmorning of knocking down pins. Open bowling is available all day, every day (click here for hours of operation), giving avid orb-hurlers a chance to scratch the nocturnal sporting itch that refuses to be sated by paper football alone.
All year long, Ohio ATV World hands over the keys to a stable of well-maintained Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha, and Polaris all-terrain vehicles that purr beneath riders as they wind down through 16 miles of trails in Hocking Hills Nature Trails. In rain, sleet, snow, or sun, attentive staff members provide helmets before indoctrinating off-road skills into beginners and experts, who can zip through trail barrels and ramps atop their four-wheelers. Off the beaten path, Ohio ATV World arranges group outings and birthday-party activities, such as scavenger hunts set amid the park’s scenic foliage and natural wildlife.
Certified by The Association for Challenge Course Technology, the zipline course at Valley Zipline Tours speeds danglers over the scenic Northern Hocking Hills in spectacular fashion, whisking them along a series of lines that extend to more than 1 mile in total length. First, a friendly guide drives the zippers up to the top of the valley, where they don their safety equipment and then zoom down the first five lines as a warm-up to the following three, known collectively as the Valley Super Lines. Starting at line 6, the journey whips riders across the valley and lake for distances of nearly 1,000 feet each and at more than 100 feet off the ground, reaching speeds of 55 miles per hour. To cap off the high-speed trip, a valley swing awaits at the end of the tour attached to the edge of a tower, inviting participants to jump and swing over the valley while suspended at more than 50 feet.
