For more than 30 years, MurMaid Mattress has culled an extensive arsenal of mattresses from both top-brand manufacturers and from its own, onsite factory. The shop has garnered the title of Best Mattress Store from readers of the Chattanooga Times Free Press multiple times. At seven locations throughout the Tennessee Valley, its staffers navigate sprawling showrooms that brim with memory-foam mattresses and adjustable beds from brands such as Serta and Tempur-Pedic. It procures its inventory directly from such manufacturers, working to keep its prices affordable and to ensure no under-the-bed monsters were damaged during travel. The store's immense stash of products also includes MurMaid Mattress’s own creations, assembled at an onsite factory affixed to the Cleveland location. Staffers produce custom, made-to-order mattresses from materials used by national brands.
At first glance, professional athletes, retirees, blue-collar workers, and well-traveled crash-test dummies may appear very different from one another. However, all four may share chronic or temporary pain that can be coaxed out by the strong hands of a skilled massage therapist. In contrast to repetitive relaxation-focused massages that you might experience at a resort or a spa, the therapeutic modality practiced at Natural Intuition Therapeutic Massage uses advanced techniques to relieve pain, increase range of motion, and help speed up recovery from an injury. To meet these goals, the massage therapist works closely with clients to determine what needs fixing and then hones in on troubled areas. That?s not to say treatments are strictly utilitarian: therapeutic massage can have relaxing effects too, helping decrease overall stress and tension and producing long-lasting results that can leave clients pain-free even after their visit.
David Gargan founded Eco Clean Carpet Solutions in 1993 with the customer-service values and intimate knowledge of stains he culled from more than seven years in the restaurant business. David and his team of IICRC–certified cleaners demonstrate a core commitment to customers by expediently deploying truck-mounted equipment and an arsenal of know-how to extricate stains and grime from carpeting, fabric, and abstract-expressionist paintings. The team’s eco-friendly products minimize the impact on the environment, winning the adulation of houseplants. In addition to purging fibers of assorted stains, the versatile cleaning crew also demonstrates their vast knowledge banks by renewing grout and tile, hardwood, and dryer vents.
The behavior specialists at Dog World Resort pamper and engage vacationing canines at a spacious facility with 10,000 square feet of fenced outdoor space that offers daycare, boarding, and grooming services. During counselor-supervised doggy daycare, pups are divided by their size, playfulness, and reading level before they can frolic through two indoor playrooms strewn with toys, slosh through kiddie pools, or clamber atop playground equipment outdoors. Elderly pets wind down in a separate sanctuary devoted to relaxation and idle snacking. Overnight stays at the Doggy Hotel include daytime hours spent at daycare and evenings filled with movies or playtime before mutts fall asleep inside large crates or spacious Taj Mahal suites, which sport Parisian wall decals and cheetah-print couches long enough to fit a reclining Napoleon. Owners can request extras such as a nature walk or homemade treats, and can retrieve four-legged friends at any hour with prior notice. At the spa, canines of all sizes are coddled with standard bathing, brushing, and nailcare services. Aromatherapy packages scent fur with vanilla or lavender aromas before staffers scrub teeth and top heads with bows to make them look more like luxury sedans purchased on the sly.
Few can dependably predict the future, and Matthew Wolcott probably wasn't prepared to predict even his own destiny while he was studying history at Lee University. A part-time job at Sears Portrait Studio led to classes at the New York Institute of Photography, setting the stage for a full-fledged career snapping portraits and twiddling thumbs in darkrooms. These days, Image Photography is the home base of Matthew's current passion: documenting the slices of life that make up people's personal histories, from birth to weddings and graduation. He snaps candid and posed shots within his controlled studio—where he prefers the sophisticated minimalism of a white background—and his clients can select a favorable outdoor spot for on-location shoots. After each session, he expertly tweaks color levels and digital filters to best accentuate natural grins of each subject while highlighting jawlines that conform to the golden ratio.
After years of snapping photos alone, Matt was joined at Image Photography by Cassie Lawler. While working as a retail banker, Cassie took a vacation to Mexico, where she snapped more than 500 photos. She had a favorite—an image of a beachfront taken from the top of a lighthouse. She hung a print on the only wall that she personally owned, and it was that image that reminded her daily of her inborn passion for photography. When she isn't capturing unforgettable portraits with Matthew, Cassie studies human environmental sciences at the University of Alabama.
West House is guided by the keen eye of photographer and digital-image editor Krystal Blase. No matter who's in front of her lens, she always aims to keep the atmosphere playful and the results within her vintage, fashion-forward style. Krystal has snapped subjects ranging from serious, style-savvy models to swooning, lighthearted couples to jumping extraterrestrial tourists, and will happily accommodate an on-location shoot of up to six photogenic persons. When considering location, Krystal typically encourages subjects to select a backdrop that best matches their personal narrative, so you should probably avoid shooting between competing outdoor poetry slams. After your shoot, Krystal will draw on her postproduction expertise to compile your high-resolution images on CD. Disc in hand, you'll be free to spread your shots liberally across the Internet, across the fridges of familial acquaintances, or across the desk of one highly impressed nose-modeling agency.
