Psychedelic lighting, clouds of fog, and thumping beats fill Laser Tag of Buford’s 7,000-square-foot, two-level arena. From behind rectangular obstacles and stacks of barrels, up to 28 players dodge incoming laser blasts while firing at foes during battles that commence every 20 minutes. Throughout each bout, computerized weapons and sound system¬–equipped vests help participants stay abreast of their score, while a large scoreboard updates sideline observers and astronauts watching from space. After their game, guests can explore the facility’s remaining 4,000 square feet, which house an arcade with more than 20 games and a concession stand stocked with snacks and drinks.

Having toured with Dinosaur Jr. and Meat Puppets in recent years, Dead Confederate returns to reclaim its native soil by planting its flag at the intimate downtown venue 40 Watt Club. In a dynamic live performance, the five-piece band will free cuts from their newest album, Sugar, from the confines of ear buds and bootlegged eight tracks. Beards can stoically bob along to the J Mascis–aided single "Giving It All Away" and the band's other forays into the dark corners of the rock-o-sphere, from freeform psychedelic wanderings to pulsing aural packets of distortion. Fellow performers Colour Revolt, whose debut album ranked among Paste's Best of 2008, and shoegazey Twin Tigers will ease ears into the deep end of the sonic pool with tonal palettes that range from jaunty to noisy. 40 Watt Club boasts two full bars for mid-show sipping or pouring libations to the gods of rock. Doors open at 9 p.m.

Life in Color starts parties in cities all over the globe with a vibrant mix of electronica, acrobats, pyrotechnics, and, of course, gallons upon gallons of paint. Alongside DJ-in-residence David Solano, the Rebirth spectacular features pulse-pounding performances from a different guest artist on each tour stop. While remixes sizzle and original tracks thump, performers that might include stilt-walkers and contortionists display their powers of balance and knot-tying. And at the evening's peak, an explosion of colorful paint douses the dancing crowd.
