Instead of emphasizing the fastest running times, The Sports Authority 5K Color Fun Run focuses on something else: fun. During the family-friendly event, participants jog around the fairgrounds armed with packets of nontoxic colored powder, dousing fellow runners in all manner of hues. But even those who are the best at dodging don't stand a chance while sprinting past the four color stations along the route, at which volunteers have been trained to make runners look like they battled a rainbow and lost. In addition to the sound of their own joyous yelps, participants run to a heart-pumping soundtrack created by a live DJ. At the conclusion of the 5K, runners can boogie along with a live band and sample food and drinks from concession stands. Portions of proceeds will be donated to a local charity.

Though some participants choose to run and others to walk, everybody who participates in the Color Dash experiences a transformation. As participants make their way through the 5K Color Dash and UVSplash courses they are subjected to bursts of color; additional events include Zombies by Color Dash, which adds the undead to the equation. Though the color will wash away, the memories will remain forever in the minds of all participants who aren't goldfish. Proceeds from Color Dash events benefit local children's charities and organizations.
Through group running sessions, NMotion Sports provides knowledge and support that runners might not otherwise receive when training solo. Experienced coaches ease newcomers into the rigors of running with wisdom on common topics, explaining why it's important to select good running shoes even though gazelles don't always wear them and they still love running. Seasoned runners can join groups tailored to their experience level, partaking in biweekly trail runs with kindred spirits.
AMP Fitness’s owners Ann and Michael Pendleton both have master’s degrees in sports-related fields—Michael in sports psychology and Ann in sports administration. They apply their fitness acumen to their boot camps and personal-training sessions. Located at park settings across Sacramento, the workouts typically consist of functional movements such as High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and cardiovascular and full body strength exercises.
Run or Dye is making race running a little more colorful, one major city at a time. This 5K is divided up into four separate courses of varying lengths, each designated by a separate color––which also reflects the color of safe, eco-friendly powered dye the participants get splashed with. At the end of the race, they'll cross into the aptly-named Dye Zone—a polychromatic free-for-all, where fluorescent color is thrown freely from all sides, allowing runners to splash their fellow runners or get colorful revenge on their friends, family members, and any cranky art-history teachers that happen to be walking by.
Unlike some races that rank runners by time, Run or Dye only measures success in color and fun. While the safe-to-eat dyes should wash out of clothing, runners are encouraged to wear things they don't mind getting dirty, preferably in white, gray, or another neutral color to give the dyes maximum visibility.
