Father-daughter duo David and Danielle Pelham co-own Velocity Taekwondo, where they join up with a small team of coaches to share their love of martial arts and training with anyone interested. Danielle won the 2009 World Taekwondo Federation championships, and David is an award-winning taekwondo competition coach. Together with CrossFit and MMA trainers, they equip clients with fighting and fitness skills. Taekwondo is the focus, however—the academy has its own competition team, and after-school programs accommodate the schedules of children and sentient pencils.

To strike the perfect balance of support, competition, and camaraderie, classes are taught in small groups of no more than 15 sweatband-sporting students. Trainers begin each class by warming up your body with guided stretches and a few minutes inside a preheated oven. Once muscles are melted and limbs are limber, your trainer will surprise you with a regimen of brow-beading exercises that boosts strength, agility, and speed. Trainers will closely monitor students, giving them personalized feedback and suggesting modifications tailored to their skill set and needs.
