The instructors at Tanny Academy of Martial Arts work with students of all ages and experience levels, from the 7- to 12-year-olds who enroll in kids' tae kwon do to the adults who show up for high-octane kickboxing workouts. Other students learn the art of combat in Muay Thai, whose hand-strikes derive from mixed martial arts and the hand-puppet remake of Bloodsport. The studio also offers women's self-defense classes, where ladies can learn evasive and defensive techniques as well as tips for awareness and safety.
Family Martial Arts Center’s instructors meld ancient techniques with modern fitness to boost students’ physical health and personal success. Under the tutelage of an experienced kickboxer, feet fly to the beat of radio hits in each 45-minute cardio kickboxing class, preparing athletes to excel in high-stakes hopscotch throwdowns. Students train in both self-defense and dance, focusing on toning muscle groups and increasing flexibility as they throw jabs and kicks at punching bags and rev up heart rates with energetic moves in the spacious studio.
The Guild Academy keeps alive the ancient practice of HEMA—or Historical European Martial Arts— that helps students develop self-confidence and physical strength as well as dazzling swordsmanship skills. Head instructor Aindreas draws from centuries-old sources and manuals that span a wealth of different combat styles, such as the Fiore's Flos Duellatorum and Talhoffer's Fechtbuch. Equipped with a practice gear under the watchful eye of a seasoned trainer, students build dexterity and muscle tone as they master timeless weapons such as the shortsword and buckler, the dirk, and the spada longa.
Colorado Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy's Helio Gracie, one of the original adapters of the now-venerated martial art, teaches alongside Rigan Machado. Gracie designed his system around the principle of leverage, allowing smaller fighters to overcome larger opponents regardless of the difference in strength or size. At the school, the team of instructors teach authentic Brazilian jujitsu moves to adults and kids, honoring Helio's legacy.
For nearly a decade, the nationally certified instructors at ATA Family Martial Arts have taught students how to block, strike, and kick in a series of self-defense patterns. Classes for kids as young as 4 focus on coordination, listening skills, and confidence, and adult-geared classes teach sparring and weapons training.
