Maximum Taekwondo & Yoga's two disparate workouts cover the spectrum of exercise. Taekwondo offers cardiovascular and strength training under the tutelage of former Navy man Brad Perkins, a martial arts teacher for 23 years. He focuses just as much on mental discipline and enjoyment as he does on the applied combat techniques of his martial art. On the other side of things, a team of seven yogis teaches seven kinds of yoga, helping build strength and flexibility through slow, controlled motion. They even tailor certain series of asana specifically for kids and teens, using stretches that benefit growing bodies and help kids feel like they have some control over how tall they turn out.

Coming from a large family of athletes, Tim Kaderli has made physical fitness a de facto part of his daily existence since he was a kid. He soon realized, however, that many others have never been exposed to the training techniques and nutritional habits that he relied on his entire life. This realization led him to found Synergy Fitness Boot Camp and to formulate his own methodology. Today, Kaderli aims to reach aspiring exercisers in three ways: fun and lighthearted fitness regimens, nutritional education, and motivational friendships between trainer and client. Joined by six other trainers, Tim meets with students morning, midday, and night at outdoor locations all over Austin, such as Milburn Community Park or Bee Cave Central Park. Alternatively, classes can convene at the Synergy High Intensity Training (HIT) Facilities, which provide students with equipment and shelter from the jealous glare of the sun?who will never be anything but an immobile ball of gaseous elements.

At Boot Camp 512, the enemy is predictability. Each day, your trainers will throw down a fresh guerilla-ambush worth of challenges for your muscles and your brain, fueling constant gains and keeping you engaged. Over the course of the one-hour camps, you'll run, squat, lunge, slam out push-ups and chin-ups, juggle kettlebells, punch slabs of beef, and end with a live crocodile wrestle. At the beginning and end of each session, you’ll complete a personal-fitness assessment to help set goals and measure results.

Planet Fitness embodies a judgment-free zone where guests of all ages and fitness levels can sculpt their physiques with myriad aerobic and strength-training options within a friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere. Patrons may chisel, strengthen, and balloon muscles by pushing and pulling the extensive selection of brand-name equipment and free weights. With the help of a trained instructor, guests can design a custom workout program based on exercise history, medical background, and goals of completing an underwater bicycle race. Thirty-minute small-group classes concentrate on strengthening and toning specific body parts, and others promote salubrious bodies with full-body circuit workouts designed to give each and every lackadaisical muscle a Popeye-like infusion of metaphorical spinach.

There aren’t many fighters who can say that they have their own day. Then again, there aren’t many fighters like Richard Lord. Known as the godfather of Austin boxing, he ran the boxing circuit as a professional boxer and fought a number of rounds in the old Austin Coliseum. A powerhouse presence for more than 30 years, Richard Lord has trained world-champion combatants, including Jesús "El Matador" Chávez and Anissa "The Assassin" Zamarron, and organized the first all-female boxing match sanctioned by U.S. Amateur Boxing, Inc. Looking at all of his achievements, it’s no surprise that the Austin boxing community marks its calendar for March 31, Richard Lord Day.

Inside his gym, he trains reigning prizefighters right next to first-timers in his old-school yet welcoming boxing gym. A team of amicable boxing trainers helps aspiring pugilists to pare off pounds quickly, float like butterflies, and sting like adult-contemporary singers during sweat-soaked sessions that cover form, rhythm, and timing.
