Aesthetician Annette Chavez removes unwanted body and facial hair with warm wax and a sugaring blend. She uses natural and organic products during facials that alleviate acne and sop up excess oil. Some of her facial add-ons include hot herbal towels and an organic lip treatment crafted from fruit enzymes, shea butter, avocado oil, and sunflower-seed oil.
One morning as Ann Marie was curling her lashes before school, the phone rang. Instead of putting down her eyelash curler, she held it in place as she walked toward the phone, but then tripped over a book and pulled most of her lashes out. Shaken and stirred to action by the incident, she began researching remedies and discovered permanent eyelash extensions. The event inspired her to open Princess Lashes, a beauty boutique where Ann Marie not only augments clients’ lash lines but also certifies other aestheticians in the art of extensions, an art that can be applied during tax season and when trying to make one’s child eligible for the NBA.
For nearly two decades, Sara Illig explored psychology, bodywork, and energy manipulation before finally encountering quantum medicine, which can act as a bridge between physical biology and the metaphysical experience. As a licensed massage therapist, she addresses physical ailments with traditional techniques such as Swedish massage, myofascial release, and cupping. But these days, she also probes the cognitive depths with emotional-freedom techniques, which soothe acupuncture points with light tapping motions in lieu of fine needles or finely whittled cocktail swords. By addressing both the body and the mind, Sara helps assuage headaches, posttraumatic stress disorder, and grief as her clients discover overall balance.

"I love that surprised look that a new client gets when they first see the eyelashes on," says Katie, owner of Inspirexoxo. "Clients always comment [on] how natural and pretty they look without feeling like they are too done up." She often encourages people to bring in photographs of their ideal lashes or look, so she can emulate it.
Eyelash extensions aren't the only service that Katie and her staff offer, though. She and her team also wax away unwanted facial hair, soothe skin with organic facials, and even run a little boutique with clothing and jewelry. She likes to give her customers lots of reasons to return. "We have the best clients," she says, "They are more like friends."
