Megan Jaster's enthusiasm for the visual arts reached a fever pitch while she studied painting and philosophy at Texas State University, where world-renowned artists and mentors helped her realize the infinite ways with which to color a canvas. At ATX Art Classes, Jaster coaxes her students' inner impressionists to the surface by teaching them various painting techniques, composition, and tips for overcoming mental obstacles. Her classes accommodate the needs of both novice and experienced artists, and take cues from history's most celebrated painters, including Van Gogh, Degas, and Kahlo. The studio's painting workshops allow participants to freely lob brushstrokes at canvasses to create their own masterpieces depicting ballerinas, lost lovers, or jilted ears.

Once visitors pass through the teal door and step into Excellence In Touch, a tranquil space decorated with purple walls, bright paper lanterns, and a gurgling fountain helps guests transition from the busy city outside to the calm that massages, reiki, and reflexology treatments promote. Licensed massage therapist Kathy Casey opened the office as a place to both provide her services and teach students the healing possibilities of touch. A Reiki Master with certification to work at all three levels of integrated energy therapy, she believes that massage and similar treatments hold physical and emotional benefits such as stress reduction, muscle-ache relief, and being able to see through walls. She offers many modalities of massage as well as neuromuscular therapy, reflexology, chakra balancing, myofascial release, and energy therapies. She also teaches reiki, massage, and reflexology, with classes for two aiming to make learning and practicing more fun.

To the unassuming eye, Hill Country Weavers may just look like a small home alongside South Congress. After all, the store is a converted house, and inside visitors can still find a refrigerator and stove in what was once the kitchen. Guests will also find yarn, and lots of it: five separate rooms have cubbies filled with yarn, wool, tweeds, laces and any other kind of knitting materials imaginable. To the left of the entrance is a separate room filled with books and magazines on different designs, from the serious –Kismet: Weaving was bound to meet Knit & Crochet – to the fanciful, like Knit Your Own Moustache. The store also hosts a number of classes that teach techniques on weaving items as varied as baskets and hand warmers, with enough one-on-one instruction for both beginners and experts to learn a few things.

Manhattan Elite Prep's staff of teachers and consultants carries firsthand experience navigating the complicated labyrinth of school admissions. Some were students whose high test scores and poignant essays got them into top PhD and Ivy League MBA programs. Some consultants served on admissions committees of coveted schools and know what experience, qualities, and acrobatic feats make student applications stand out. Now, this team of insiders at a firm with more than 10 years of experience pools its knowledge to help students who are serious about acing tests and placing in their top schools. They emphasize efficiency, packing as much information as they can into the time allotted, and exceeding beyond minimum requirements. Courses covering entrance tests teach students to work smarter, ruling out wrong answers and budgeting their time wisely, and essay consultants pare down applications to deliver rich content in a limited word count. Customers may complete classes online or interact in-person with their instructors as well as fellow students.

Ruba Fattouh has followed a number of different paths in her quest to better understand the human condition. Prior to becoming a master practitioner of neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), she practiced meditation, shamanism, reiki, and even dentistry, searching for ways to help others live happy, fulfilling lives. NLP proved to be the methodology that helped her clients the most, and—along with reiki—is what she practices today. By reprogramming the mind and discarding outdated patterns of thought that only lead to emptiness, Ruba helps individuals become effective communicators, relieve anxiety and depression, improve wellness, and improve relationships. These newfound characteristics help students reach their potential in any area they desire, be it health, business, relationships, or communication.
