Since the traditional soda shop has fallen by the wayside, ice-cream parlors have become one of the sole guardians of childhood sweets-induced bliss. Though they founded it in 2004, the owners of Fenik's Frozen Custard take that responsibility seriously, doing their best to summon up friendly nostalgia with the historic photos covering their mint-green walls and the checkerboard floor underfoot. They even outfitted the joint with chrome-finished tables and chairs, a popular style from the 1950s and a 1960 Seeburg Jukebox with original 45" discs that is set on free play. The staff cycles through different custard flavors every week, whipping up new batches based on recently discovered recipes or just their own imagination. Apart from nearby parking spaces, a bike rack out front also makes the joint accessible for sweets-craving youngsters.
