A Broadway hit and 12-time Tony Award winner, Mel Brooks' The Producers features the exploits of con men Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, whose attempt to produce a flop on the Great White Way goes mirthfully awry. Accompanied by a live orchestra and the full-color guffaws of fellow audience members, The Producers ensures a side-stitching, knee-slapping, stranger-high-fiving good time. Currently in its 25th season, Lakeland Community Theatre has given thousands of local performers a spot on stage and ushered untold numbers of plot twists past the awe-struck eyes of more than 325,000 audience members. Its performance space in the Lake Mirror Theatre Complex is sited a short distance from an array of shops and restaurants, ensuring an evening of ample eye, ear, and mouth feasting.
In their 85th season, the Harlem Globetrotters have entertained millions of parents, children, and general basketball admirers with a unique brand of athletic precision and showmanship. For their latest 4 Times the Fun North American tour, the Globetrotters will add new 4-point shot spots located 35 feet from the basket, which is 12 feet farther than the official 3-point line but several thousand miles closer than the prime meridian.
Generation gaps call an evening-long truce to absorb the electric harmonies and magnetic energy of legendary rock bands Def Leppard and Heart. Def Leppard began its ascent to British hard-rock royalty in the late 1970s, solidifying its reign with the 1987 hit album Hysteria and its iconic anthems "Love Bites" and "Armageddon It." Its latest tour stokes nostalgia and then pours sugar on it, with library classics giving way to singles such as "Undefeated" from the forthcoming Mirrorball live album. Heart frontwomen Ann and Nancy Wilson add to the aural carnival with sisterly harmonics and guitar-wrangling routines developed over more than 30 years onstage. Revelry-inducing '70s hits "Barracuda" and "Crazy on You," along with soul-clutching '80s power ballads "Alone" and "What About Love," embody the decades whence they came while continuing to forcefully knock the socks and toenail polish off rapt concertgoers. Seating is in sections 12–16 and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Named one of USA Today's Top Ten Skating Rinks in 2008, USA Skateplex sends eight-wheelers careening around a skating arena, competing in a full arcade, and snacking at concession stands. During public skate sessions, freewheelers strap on their own blades or a rental pair of old-school four-bangers and do the counter-clockwise coast to DJ hits. Pairs of floating friends can take a breather for intermittent soda and arcade breaks; groups of four get twice as many game tokens and a large cheese pizza to salten the deal.
