The staff members at Sylvan Learning Center's numerous study facilities understand that each child learns differently. Therefore, they don?t try to implement a uniform tutoring system; instead, they design custom lesson programs based on the results of standardized testing, diagnostic tools, and one-on-one interviews.
Tutors work with students from kindergarten through grade 12, illuminating topics ranging from basic reading and writing to remembering complex algebraic formulas without having them tattooed on your chest. Many of Sylvan?s instructors work in local schools, so they are intimately familiar with common curricula and understand how to gear lessons toward optimal results. After-school and summer classes can ready high-schoolers for the rigors of the ACT or the SAT, or they can help students to wow college-admissions officers with their superior essay-writing skills.
Brothers and co-owners Joel and Jared Fulton recognize that firearms and defense tactics can overwhelm people, so they guide clients step-by-step to help them feel comfortable with using and owning a firearm. Joel and Jared––both NRA-certified Chief Range Safety Officers––and their team of instructors supervise open shooting and NRA-sanctioned training courses. Back at the pro shop, they advise clients on personal firearms use by encouraging them to ask questions such as, "How well do you handle recoil?" and "How will you need to store it?" This patient approach reflects the brothers' belief that an armed society should also be an informed and polite society, and has earned them a steadfast following––every ladies' night, for example, draws between 50 and 90 participants.
Life in Color starts parties in cities all over the globe with a vibrant mix of electronica, acrobats, pyrotechnics, and, of course, gallons upon gallons of paint. Alongside DJ-in-residence David Solano, the Rebirth spectacular features pulse-pounding performances from a different guest artist on each tour stop. While remixes sizzle and original tracks thump, performers that might include stilt-walkers and contortionists display their powers of balance and knot-tying. And at the evening's peak, an explosion of colorful paint douses the dancing crowd.
The first Batteries Plus shop opened in 1988 in response to the growing popularity of portable devices such as Walkmans and digital cameras. Today, 525 stores supply patrons with batteries to power gadgets ranging from digital cameras, cell phones, and laptops to motorcycles or robotic butlers. Light bulbs are another specialty: the stores stock everything from colorful incandescent bulbs to halogen lights that illuminate dark highways.
For more than four decades, Fun Party Rental's carnival games, bounce houses, and prizes have been a fixture at childhood parties, corporate events, and fundraiser gatherings both big and small. All those years in the party business have left the staff with an intuitive knowledge of what makes a celebration a success; they can gauge how many refills to order with their cotton-candy, popcorn, and snow-cone machines, recommend the ideal pop-up tent for a wedding reception, or offer advice on how to lure an aquaphobic boss into a dunk tank. An online FAQ explains the terms of service for each rental.
Dozens of colorless figurines line the shelves at Howard's Ceramics & Gifts, awaiting a coat of paint. These bisque artifacts become custom works of art during painting sessions and parties at the studio, which also supplies paint and finishing spray. The inventory of ceramics typically includes holiday and religious items, fantasy creatures, and Native American cultural items.
