John Whitman is more than a licensed massage therapist. He's also a massage-therapist instructor, licensed to help other therapists hone their healing skills. Patrons can benefit from Whitman's expertise at Opulent Massage, where he relaxes and soothes muscles with modalities such as trigger-point therapy and deep-tissue massage. Clients can also opt for cellulite massages and face-lift massages that improve appearances, or for pampering treatments such as foot massages that incorporate a fragrant, exfoliating salt scrub.
When couples just don't have the time for a vacation this year, Luscious helps them escape into an oasis where a hot tub and a fireplace keep hearts warm and a wine bar with healthy snacks romances even the taste buds. Inside a private treatment room, a licensed massage therapist disentangles muscle knots with stretching, heated basalt stones, or custom-tailored kneading. The spa also offers detoxifying mud wraps that use Egyptian mud clay to unclog pores and back-buffing treatments that clean and exfoliate skin to help heal blemishes. Gentlemen’s and ladies’ services can be performed in couples or solo for spouses in need of a deep cleaning after literally sleeping in the dog’s house.
The stylists at the locally owned SH Salons cut, style, and revitalize coiffures using high-end haircare products from brands such as Shiva, Silkology, and Clio. They also straighten locks by applying keratin treatments and relaxers, forgoing the now-defunct practice of hammering them over an anvil. Dedicated to bringing out clients’ beauty from head to toe, the experienced staff can also apply makeup or polish nails with dazzling hues.
Since 1989, the mane-maintaining mavens at Variations Hair Salon have transformed dull strands into enviable displays of put-togetherness with professional cuts and smart stylings for men, women, and children. During each appointment, a rejuvenating shampoo session washes head nests of dirt, oil, and pelican feathers before a talented trimmer carefully cuts strands in the customer’s desired style. A final styling straightens hair and adds bounce to flowing manes, ensuring guests exude style and sophistication. Afterward, visitors can stroll down sidewalks while luring more admiring looks than a baby wrapped in hundred-dollar bills.

When and how did you first develop a passion for your work?
I worked in a salon as a secretary and decided I wanted to become a manicurist, own my own business, and pamper people. I love meeting new people, talking to them, and helping them relax.
Do you or your staff have any special certifications or degrees?
I received my Minx Nails certification in 2007.
Out of your entire repertoire, which is your favorite service to perform and why?
I love performing spa pedicures because they are really relaxing for my clients. I also remove dead skin from the feet—something that many salons don't do.
