The past century has seen the St. John's men's basketball team rack up the seventh-most victories in the NCAA, sending 60 players to the pros in the process. The team of highly certified athletes and instructors at Avantis Swimming Academy works with kids to develop useful swimming skills, and in turn, helps them build strong character and the foundation for a healthy lifestyle. Avantis' experienced staff of coaches and instructors boast an extensive educational and athletic pedigree, including degrees in social psychology, collegiate swimming championships, Olympic participation, and three national championships, and semesters spent studying abroad at the bottom of the ocean. These coaches lead private lessons and group classes during which novice and experienced swimmers alike practice fundamental skills such as breathing techniques, diving, backstroke, and flipturns. Additionally, children from five to 18 master craftwork, swimming kicks, and friendship at Avantis' day camps and sleepaway summer camps, while adults build strength and swimming proficiency during group grown-up courses.
