Q&A with Lisa Thompson, Owner and Stylist

The sweet irony of becoming a stylist is that no matter how good you are, you can never give yourself a haircut. What do you look for in a stylist when you need a trim?
When looking for the best stylist, I always look for someone who will take the time to KNOW me and my likes and dislikes. Ask me? Ask who I am as a person! Someone who will take the time to know me.

What's the number one grooming tip every person should know?
Never blow dry your hair with the nozzle of your dryer facing up! It will always make your hair frizzy! Always put a cool rinse on your hair to add shine!

What other services do you offer besides haircuts?
Perming, coloring, hi-lighting, and facial waxing.

The staff at Cloud Nine Massage and Spa wears many hats. They have a licensed managing clinical aesthetician, brow expert, and massage therapist. Certifications include ones in photofacials, microdermabrasion treatments, and pharmaceutical chemical peels. They clear away acne and fine lines using face peels concocted from ingredients such as aloe vera, green tea, and vitamin C.

Gravity Spa balances the body and swaddles the aura with a plethora of healing massage style —Swedish, lomi lomi, and healing crystal–performed by the patient paws of licensed massage therapists. The relationship class, a couples' knot-kneading workshop, ignites tea-light romances into flamethrower flirtations with a roughly two-hour-long course on soothing massage techniques and fire-safety guidelines. Or, the less academically inclined can choose to banish muscle tension with a 60-minute four-handed couples' massage, which incorporates warm oil and long strokes as two therapists, one per significant other, work in sync on each side of the body. Circulation may improve and toxins can be released as coupled muscles sleepily surrender memories from remote-control battles and it's-your-turn-to-clean-the-hovercraft debates.

Owner and massage therapist Kenyatta Bozeman understands that massage is a practical way to relieve chronic pain—she graduated from the Dayton School of Medical Massage—but she also believes it should be a memorable experience. That's why she enhances her treatments with hot-towel add-ons, nine essential oils including tea tree and ylang-ylang, and even time for an after-massage nap, which can last up to 30 minutes or until the client's REM cycle has finished downloading the latest edition of Netscape Navigator. These add-ons complete the eight styles of massage available, including deep-tissue, hot-stone, and prenatal.
