The Club at Harper's Point encompasses the essentials for wellness and entertainment, including tennis courts, a fitness center, and a pool exclusively for adults. The tennis courts span both indoor and outdoor acreage, with 10 sheltered courts sporting a cushy DecoTurf that gently buoys balls, feet, and dropped crystal vases. Outside, 11 HarTru Sports soft courts host rapid-fire matches and classes or camps for all ages amid shaded gazebos. In the fitness center, certified personal trainers whip bodies into shape atop Cybex and Hammer strength equipment, as well as treadmills and ellipticals equipped with TVs. The fitness staff also captains exercise classes including spinning, aerobics, and yoga to chisel physiques and wake muscles from their winter hibernation. Visitors can wind down from workouts at the pool.
Founded in 1972 as a gymnastics club, TWIGS Kids now resides in a sprawling 20,000-square-foot facility staffed by enthused staffers. The gym’s name, which stands for True Winners in God’s Service, reflects its mission of providing gymnastics, swimming, and cheer activities and instruction for kids ages 3–18 in a Christian environment. Cheer and gymnastics lessons simultaneously bolster students’ flexibility, coordination, confidence, and ability to best invisible friends in monkey-bar competitions. Amid the heated waters of Dolphin Cove, teachers and pupils soak their feet while lifting floating barbells and riding noodle floats during swimming lessons. An in-house café welcomes visitors to recharge their empty fuel tanks with refreshing snacks, while a gift shop displays colorful gym attire from designers including GK Elite Sportswear and Melody Leotards.
The Dayton-area branch of the YMCA began before the Civil War, but disbanded when war struck. Re-founded in peacetime, individuals and families have gathered at the Y for more than 140 years to enrich themselves through health and wellness programs. Eleven campuses serve the entire community—babies as young as 6 weeks old can attend childcare programs; kids can take gymnastics and soccer lessons; teens can develop their leadership skills; seniors can keep fit through Active Older Adults exercise classes; and the whole family can enjoy the pool.
Zoom Multisport Racing encourages triathlon and duathlon racing in the Midwest with events that welcome athletes ranging from average to elite. Its signature race series is the Zoom Triathlon & Duathlon Championship Series, which hosts three races spread across the summertime. During each event, competitors swim through 1,000 yards of open water in Caesar Creek Lake (or run 2 miles for the duathlon), bike through 18 miles of Warren County, and run across 4 miles of dirt and concrete pathways in Caesar Creek State Park. Since each race is identical, athletes can track their progress by the change in time it takes to complete each race and number of hot dogs they can consume afterward without going cross-eyed. Zoom Multisport also teams up with Trimble Triathlon Multisport Coaching Services to offer the Couch to Competition training plan, designed to help chisel beginning muscles into Grecian works of art.
Throughout the 11 courts lined up inside and outside of Court Yard Sportsplex, tennis balls thwack against rackets swung by players in private lessons, instructional clinics, and competitive interclub matches. Elsewhere, cardio and weightlifting machines whir with the effort of exercisers, and the squeak of tennis shoes echoes upon basketball and racquetball courts. In the heated outdoor pool—open Memorial Day through Labor Day—younger kids splash in the 3- to 5-foot waters during beginners' swim lessons, while older kids sluice through the water with instruction on a variety of strokes. Music emanates from classrooms, where a Joffrey Ballet–trained instructor orchestrates youth ballet classes and adults embrace personalized instruction with ballroom-dancing lessons. After any activity, members can soothe exerted muscles with the onsite massage therapist, who calms muscles with one of nine modalities and essential oils infused with lullabies.
